I remember one particularly cringe worthy moment, where Bunce was telling us that Audley Harrison vs Haye was going to be a great fight and a great spectacle, it is probably still on youtube. Telling it like it is indeed. I can think of many other examples like this. Bunce doesn't tell like it is, he just toes the company line saying whatever his paymaster wants him to.
in all fairness , everyone that announces is gonna favor their house fighters or hometown guys, that happens in all sports. theres no rule against being biased as an announcer.....i could give two shi.ts whos ass they kiss during a telecast..... every non american *****es about HBO's bias toward their guys...are people that stupid to think a human being is something other than a human being and has their own thoughts and opinions everyone needs to ***** about the biased judging, that is what the he.ll is wrong with the sport
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=blKtEJ-SGqQ Think he makes a pretty good point about that fight right here. Hard to disagree with him. How is a sold out arena for a fight not a great spectacle?
That was post fight, I clearly remember him saying what a great fight it is going to be pre-fight. Everyone who knew anything about boxing knew it was a complete mismatch and a joke of a world title fight. Promoting it as a great spectacle and a competitive fight prior to it does only damage to the sport, because of what actually transpired in the ring.
while i enjoy bunce's puppydog enthusiasm, i can see how he might rub up others the wrong way. but criticizing him for failing to accurately predict the future is harsh.
I have a problem with Bunce because not only is he biased, but he isn't always sticking to the facts. His hype for Haye vs. Fraudley was one thing. He also kept referring to Haye as a "superstar" after his "spectacular" win over Valuev -- which in reality was a narrow SD in a stinker of a fight. I remember one specific broadcast where Bunce and I believe it was Johnny Nelson were explaining how Klitschko was strategically picking young hopefuls in the HW division, invite them for sparring and then 'beat them up and scar them for life' in sparring so they don't become a threat later. That sounded so much like a tinfoil-head conspiracy theory that I thought for a second they were kidding. They were dead serious however. When has Bunce ever said anything critical about his own fighters? Larry Merchant went into war of words vs. Floyd. When has Bunce ever gone against any of his own 'good lads'? I am sure he's a good guy, loves his nation and his fighters, that's all good and commendable. But he's not always sticking to the facts like good journalists should.
Mate, you didn't have to be Nostradamus to know that Haye v Harrison was a complete mismatch and a farce of a heavyweight world title fight. I do understand that Bunce had commercial interest in promoting that fight, but I do take issues with people saying Bunce 'says it as it is', that is just an outright lie.
He works for BoxNation, who were showing the fight. It's his job to hype fights as they used to show previews to encourage more subscribers.
Buncey is great, just makes the boxing night far more entertaining with his wacky punditry, I don't mind Lillis either, they work well together in my opinion.
We'll just have to agree to disagree on that one, I think he cleatly knows when he is talking b0llocks
