Do the Boxnation commentators do any background work on the fighters before they commentate on fights? Barry Jones last night through the whole fight kept on saying "If only Joe Hughes would use his right arm more, he would get much more success" I'm pretty sure if Joe Hughes could use his right arm more then he would but even in an Interview for Boxnation that was played before the actual fight Joe Hughes mentions the fact that he is basically a one armed fighter and in other interviews he has stated that his right arm is basically only for blocking shots. I know Barry was a good pro but it doesn't take much research on his part or the other commentator to know these types of things but for him to keep saying the same thing throughout was tedious. I don't want much from a commentating team and SKY commentators are just as bad but please do some homework beforehand.
You're saying a fighter at a pretty high level as a pro can't attack at all with his right hand, and that Barry Jones should have known that and accepted it? Strange.
I'm saying that Joe Hughes himself said it in interviews with the press and Boxnation and that any commentator who takes his job seriously should do some background work on a boxer they will be commentating on. In just 1 search on google I found an interview but It won't let me post a link because I have only recently joined but it is a story from the Bath Chronicle and can be easily found but here is an interesting part of that interview: Hughes' right shoulder became lodged in his mother's hip during birth, causing nerve damage and leaving the arm two-and-a-half inches shorter than his left. As a result, he uses it for little more than blocking punches, attacking solely with his left, rising through the ranks to defy the opinion of doctors. "When I was born, my family were told I would never be able to run in a straight line, be able to play contact sports or have a manual job," he explained in an interview with Boxing Monthly. "By the time I was 14, when I'd won a national schoolboy title, doctors were saying to me: 'You won't turn professional', because my right shoulder wouldn't hold up. It just drove me on. "If your arm doesn't work properly, what is the hardest sport you can do? Boxing. "I don't usually use my right arm, but I have had 70 amateur fights, 15 pro fights, and won most of them fighting with one arm. If i can find that then I'm sure someone who is paid to know what he is talking about should manage it too. Not really that strange is it pal.:good
I mean it is pretty strange being a one-armed boxer! But yes, commentator should pick that up, it's kind of significant. Can't complain too much about BoxNation for giving us more boxing on TV, but wish they could be a bit less budget. If it was a pub, it wouldn't serve food.
