no reason to be a smart ass DF. I don't see what BN can do to boost its subscribers. If you have any ideas please enlighten me?
You see it as being a smart ass, I was only pointing out that just because you don't see the opportunities doesn't mean they aren't there. From the start you've thought the channel would fail and a lot of your comments are coloured with that, from my perspective at least. I'm not a TV executive and, without the subscriber analytics, I'd be unsure what you could do. I'd try to expand my userbase with other minority combat sports and use boxing as the flagship. The one real opportunity they've got is online - a full archive of Sports Network fights as well as classic bouts would be a major selling point for many fans. Searching on You Tube for sometimes poor quality footage is a pain. And torrents are used by a tiny minority.
i hope it doesnt go bust weve never seen so much live boxing it needs new subscribers tho and its no good losing 'event' fights to primetime when they come up - the standard fare of the german cards n the odd domestic wont do it. they have never shown enough british cards but it probably wouldnt bring in extra subs so they dont do it even using other promoters w@rrens been sayin for a while they are doin well n its breaking even what do the figures mean about this?? is there anymore information to get from the figures released like subscriber numbers etc will these losses include money that will only have to spent once due to start up costs
If boxnation wanted to improve and be a service that will gain subscribers there is one standout thing for me and that is the matchmaking of the British fighters. Overall it has been shocking and made certain fighters a source of ridicule. How is this fact helping the case for potential subscribers or even the fighters themselves and building up a possible fanbase?
It doesnt help that boxnation's two 'champions' are the laughing stock of British boxing. Its almost becoming a running joke of who they will fight next.
I am almost positive that Sports Network used to offer this service. I don't think there is a huge market for viewing classic fights. I also question whether ***** still owns the rights to fights from way back because I have only ever seen fight from 2004 onwards on Box Nations replays. I might be wrong about that though. But like I said I just don't see that as a way to significantly increase BN's revenues. Surely most who wants to watch fights from 1999 is already a subscriber to Box Nation? I think the only way for Box Nation to do well, and i have always maintained this, is as a channel that shows international fights, and then offer a PPV alongside that for bigger events to non subscribers. I don't think they would lose a significant amount of its existing client base as long as theres 40 International cards a year.
This isn't bad at all. You guys are forgetting a few things 1 box nation also acts as a promoter receiving revenue from live gates and multi country distribution rights 2 advertising will be a big piece of the actual income with this business - both at live events and on television 1st year results on the basis of cash flow and revenue I would suggest are very good and will only get bigger as they develop more fighters and get them more recognised internationally.
Next year will be tough for them to pull in new subscribers I feel. Unless Haye gets a Vitali fight on there I don't see what's going to bring anyone new in because Cleverly and Burns fighting bum mandatories is not going to start an influx any time soon.
It depends who is under writing this venture. From what I have heard the majority shareholders are Arabs, who are more than capable of writing a sizeable cheque.:good
I don't see what BoxNation can do to turn this around. The hardcore boxing fan market isn't a big one and whilst Haye and Mayweather fights brought in viewers, that can't be relied upon in the future. The issue is that a niche channel can not create a star. What would turn BoxNation around is if Burns and Cleverly became attractions but that's impossible to do on a niche station. Its a Catch 22. The fact is, the audience isn't big enough. The casual boxing market is big but there aren't enough hardcore fans who are willing to pay a monthly subscription to sit through mismatches every week. Boxing fans will but there isn't a sufficient amount of them to bring in a fee, nor is there enough to demand big money from advertisers. In another business, a first year loss would be fine because the business could grow in future years. However, unless BoxNation goes international, it can't grow. The UK boxing market isn't going to get bigger and as Frank routinely can't pay his fighters, the few attractions he does have, such as Mitchell, they will leave him, further diminishing the number of subscribers. BoxNation is ****ed. The channel can't grow because there can't be more subscribers, nor will the advertising money increase. There is no way to substantially increase the amount of money coming in. Even if they start showing old fights, that only caters to hardcore fans so it's not like people will pay in their thousands to watch old Calzaghe bouts. The fights shown on Sky, which is the bulk of the quality Frank has put on over the years, aren't going to be sold either.
They should open the channel to freeview viewers but on a subscription basis, I don't watch much Tv so I'm not willing to pay for Sky aswell as the Boxnation subscription fee. If it was just the standalone Boxnation fee then id sign up tomorrow.
People do realise these number are until the end of jan 2012 They gained a lot more subs since then Most people bash it either cause they anti FW or pro eddie hearn
i agree Anabolic. At this stage the channel had only being going as paid only for since mid Oct the Bellew Cleverly date. Frankie never tells lies and he says the channel is breaking even, we have to believe in Frank.
wasnt the channel free til about december 2011 so basically these figures mean **** all to the state of the business today i hope they breaking even as w@rren has been saying
