They are now showing MMA. They have a highlights show at 19:30. I thought I subscribed to a boxing channel not a MMA channel. This is probably a sign of things to come.
I cant see, and stand how some Boxing Fans cant at least appreciate MMA, and vice versa. They are so similar in what they offer as an entertainment combat sport. Embrace that ****!
I followed it for a good few years, like I have stacks of DVDs, the first one I saw was Ortiz/Shamrock a decade ago, but it wore thin on me about two years ago, I'll probably check it out but the commentary is usually woeful (thank god we wont have to put up with that arrogant **** joe rogan though, hes probably a big reason I stopped watching UFC)
I used to watch it quite a bit, until I realized what it was all about. I'm convinced there is a lot of staged **** going on in the cage. A lot of talking in fights up against the cage. Seen it time and time again + far to many injuries go on, which could be all BS for all we know, in order to make another fight. Didn't a card get completely done away with not long ago? If I watch, I watch very sparingly, used to be a time where I'd stop up every time it was on, not no more though.
I check out a few of the big fights every now and again. you know a big problem for me was MMA fans going on about peoples ignorance towards MMA, when they have the most condescending, inferiority complex driven attitude of all combat sports fans. Yes, BJJ is very technical, I know my Americanas from my Kimuras from my rubber guard to Gogos, that doesn't make it the most exciting thing in the world just because you know the technique behind what they're doing. One of the other things that turned me off MMA was the BJJ and Wrestling guys constantly having a boner that they finally had a sport to apply themselves to that people could be arsed paying to watch, and now think they are the bees knees, when the fact is everyone would still much rather have a Henderson-Bisping style KO than seeing a guy work from half guard to a full mount arm triangle for five minutes...Ugh, again, yes Joe, I do see what he's doing, I do know what he's doing, that doesn't always make it ****ing exciting. Look at how many guys Josh Koscheck has knocked out with that wild ass overhand right (litaerally the only punch he threw for a large portion of his career..AND IT WORKED!), KOd so called guys with "good standup", yet GSP learns how to throw a decent jab and he looks like Ike Quartey in there against him, that was embarrassing.
Never known fans like it myself, just a bunch of pissed up devil horn rednecks who turned up at the wrong place. They pretend they are so superior in knowledge, with all the different styles and ground passes, yet when the fights on the ground or up against the cage, they start booing because they want to see a scrap on the feet anyway. Joe Rogan calls a fight like he is talking to a baby. The target audience nowadays is the casuals. I just don't get it. It was good in its heydey, with pride and the early UFC, but then it went mainstream and started targeting a demographic audience. Not for me now, I watch it occasionally, if there is a fight that interests me, or a fighter that interests me. Of which there are very very very few still around. Shame really, could have been something special, but they started going away from "as real as it gets" to competing with WWF. What the f*ck is that about?
I used to watch UFC, but as already mentioned it got a bit too "mainstream". I doubt if Boxnation will be showing UFC though, so we might get actually get something that will fill the gap left by boxing that they "run out of time" on...
I love MMA so no complaints to BN from me. Just like boxing it can be extremely boring at times or it can extremely exciting, depends on the style clash. To the guy saying its staged, stop being ******ed, you do know that boxers talk to each other during the fight as well, does that mean some boxing fights are staged too ? Also UFC isn't MMA, its just one of many organizations in the sport albeit the biggest
Don't come with that just because you love MMA. I've seen plenty of boxers talk in the ring, taking the **** out of one another, but I don't think I've ever seen them talk so close, so they can tell their opponent the next move or punch in the fight. MMA at one time was great, but of recent, I have seen a lot of this going on, it's blatantly obvious and they'll stay in the position for a while yapping on, almost deciding between them what to do next.
