Boxnation ppv on sky sports box office...

What boxnation won't have is the week long hype that Sky Sports create for their PPV events (gloves are off, countdowns etc). In the IFL interview George ****** kept mentioning the 10-12 Million Sky customers but he failed to mention that 6-8 Million of those are Sky Sports customers and THEY are the Sky Sports Box Office target audience, and they got 400k of those 6-8 Million to shell extra for the PPV.

Sky Sports won't be running those shows for Boxnation, yes as George mentioned they can buy ad space on Sky Sports, but not the wall to wall programming that Sky Sports push their PPVs with (not just boxing but wrestling too).

The flip side of this is BN seem to be pushing their PPV as a side by side with Boxnation subscription not an ADDITIONAL charge. Their target audience for that is people like me, I'm not willing to pay £12 a month (plus the £8 sign up) as they don't have enough for me to justify a regular subscription and I CBA with the hassle of repeatedly subscribing and unsubscribing every time I want to see a fight. They do however run the odd show (bad blood and last weekend) that I would be willing to purchase for an easy one off no committment payment and as George ****** was quite rightly mentioning I would be more willing to press my red button and get it instantly, than filling out the form on the website. So they seem to be moving in the right direction to drive a bit off additional revenue.

 

My point is there two different platforms in thr sky branch....ie sky sports box office. ...and skybbox office are 2 different divisions wothin sky. ..

 

The only way this would work is if sky sports news started plugging it. If it doesn't get any coverage from them I don't see how it's any different to boxnation. All the casuals buy hearns ppv because it is plugged all week long on ssn and made into some kind of grudge. I hope they are successful ans knock hearn of his perch

 

Reckon one or two big PPV shows, better chance of getting Fury, Haye or the big US shows.

Won't have the same amount of publicity and won't get the same amount of viewers but also think target will be lower. Rather than looking at the PPV as a cash cow they will have a smaller target and measure success on increased BN customers and the monthly recurring revenue. Almost buying customers and monetising with increased ad revenue. Can't hurt the promotional side of the business attracting and retaining fighters - carrot of future PPV whether real or not.

Taking a risk and good luck to them. If it makes sense, I'll buy it

 

I have my doubts that Sky Sports News HQ would plug a Boxnation event that hard unless Sky themselves get a large cut of the PPV revenue. Lots of conflicts could emerge from this potentially- if Hearn runs 8 PPVs next year Boxnation could only feasibly run 4 (I doubt Sky want more than one boxing PPV per month).

There is also the issue of when this starts- some hints that it'll start for the Flannagan/Matthews fight which is on February 13th. Frampton/Quigg is on the 27th of that month- would Sky see the commercial case for both on PPV within that time frame?

I see this as a strategic move from Frank and George to stop Hearn from running endless PPVs on Sky and of course to make some money themselves. Being able to purchase just one Boxnation event at a time certainly is a step forward for the channel and it'll be interesting to see how this plays out.

 

Sky will get a large slice of the PPV revenue. The internal politics will be interesting.

The commercial dept will make the same whether Sky Sports or BN so will want it promoting. Sky Sports/Boxing will make nothing - if anything it dilutes their ability to do more PPV.

Sod the meeting. Both dept heads in a gloves are off, chaired by Murdoch

 

So-called ''boxing fans'' on here hoping that a successful PPV rival to Matchroom fails? Haye vs Wilder, Saunders vs Cotto not PPV worthy to some, but Bellew vs Cleverly and Joshua vs Whyte are worth coughing up for because Sky do a 'face-off' show to show you they hate each other? Okay.

 

On the Boxnation site is says Boxnation HD will be available on the Sky Platform

Saunders Eubank is the obvious FW PPV, can see them getting some airtime on SSN but they wouldn't get to do anything on sky sports to promote, would make sense to put their faceoff show on BN free view/YouTube and the other pre fight build up (in fairness they've done this in the past)

 

You reckon casuals would buy it without the endless ssn plugs? Its all the build up on there that gets them excited for it.

 

On the whole....us fans are f...ked....possibly 6 ppvs next year.....brilliant

 

People who go to Youtube and Boxnation are searching for... Boxing. Thats a limited number of people.

Most people who go to SSN are mainly Football fans.. looking for Football news.. then.. BAM .. have a look at this "beast" Anthony Joshua.. £16.95 please..

Its cross promotional, and its what Sky do better than anybody.
