very poor choice of fight for a tv show, a terrible performance by Joe against an oldster he should have clearly beat but just barely scraped away with the win. And an even worse performance from the ageing Bernie. Really Joe should have been fighting old legends on his way UP before winning a title, not to end his career, like fighters with normal careers do.

shame the fight didn't happen years earlier when joe couldn't come up with the money and decided to wait till Bernie was old and he could simply win by outgassing Hops superior skills. Then again I am glad it didn't, Joes record looks good without a defeat if you don't examine it closely.

IF Hopkins had stood and fought he would have got stopped and he knew it.

it was 4 or 5 rounds to Hopkins clearly ouboxing joe with superior skill, until he gassed out in 6, then when he got his lungs back he continued to outbox joe in round 11 or 12, cant remember which one now.

The others calzaghe won because he was throwing and almost always missing but Hopkins wasn't doing anything noteworthy in offence.

Calzaghe just wins by outgassing an oldie.

Calzaghe just wins by outgassing Nard at any point of his career.

naaa when Bernie doesnt outgass he'd need another plan, as he'd be outboxed all 12 rounds then and not just 5. Bernster only started to gass out when he turned fortysomething, an age when joe had conveniently retired at.

Kudos to Joe though for beating an actually good fighter for the 2nd time in his career.

Hopkins had been visibly declining since around 2004, the first sign being him unable to finish off Robert Allen when he had him out on his feet. In the Eastman fight it was clear that Hopkins was now well past his prime and the two subsequent losses to Taylor came as no surprise. Calzaghe was something like a 4 to 1 favorite to beat Hopkins, people seem to forget that, and if beating a man in 40's makes Calzaghe an all time great then so are Jermain Taylor and Chad Dawson, who both beat old Hopkins much better than Joe did.

    Oh noooooo,

Hopkins hates when someone forces the pace.
Pick a fight and I will expain.

Calzaghe would out man him IF Nard tried to fight.
It would look like the Brewer fight.

cool yeah sure Hopkins and brewer are the same person with the same ability. That is if you are racist enough to think 'chocolatehead people' are all the same person.

    well done there mate.

But joe did win. I am glad he did, Bernie was being a dipstick.

An appalling fight with the two protagonists struggling. Calzaghe edged it. Watch with the sound off.

Looks, it only narrow minded, idiotic Calzaghe nuthuggers who jizz their pants over Calzaghe beating Hopkins, according Joe, his dad, his fans, most boxing journalists, pundits and the bookies, he was going to win easy yet he got dropped, looked terrible and the win was highly debatable.

Do you think Americans have hysterical mass circle jerks over Taylor and Dawson beating Hopkins? No they don't, because at this point in Hopkins career your supposed to be beating him.

Beating old man Hopkins is a good solid win but nothing more and the fact that it's also highly debatable whether or not Calzaghe even won takes even more shine off it.
