Boxing manager and promoter Frank ****** is planning to roll out his recently established subscription channel Box Nation internationally as it approaches 100,000 UK subscribers. ****** is in talks with promoters in the Ukraine, Russia and the Far East to licence the Box Nation brand and showcase local fighters. The move would enable ****** to promote bigger fights, which can be aired internationally. It follows the launch of the £10 per month channel in the UK via Sky, Virgin Media and online in December. If youre a rights holder then there comes a time when you question why you are working with a broadcaster, when you are able to use your own judgement and keep your destiny in your own hands, he said. Despite his assertion, talks are underway with Sky to secure distribution for the channel in pubs and clubs, which requires a separate carriage agreement. ****** is also hunting for a terrestrial broadcaster to show a highlights package. Channel 5 is considered to be a potential partner after it recently secured strong ratings for fights featuring Tyson Fury and Chris Eubank Jr. ****** expects the David Haye versus Dereck Chisora fight, which will air on Box Nation on 14 July, to provide a shot-in-the-arm to the channel. It will be the first time we have had a big British showdown that transcends boxing. Its the biggest fight of the year so far because of the controversy involved, said ******. There are no plans to mix Box Nations subscription model with pay-per-view access but ****** pointed to the 1.5 million US homes which paid $79 to watch this months bout between Floyd Mayweather and Miguel Cotto, as proof of the willingness of boxing fans to pay. He added that just 200 subscribers had left the service in the five months it has been on-air. ****** said he saw an opportunity to launch a dedicated boxing channel following Sky Sports anticipated reduction of its domestic coverage from 50 to 25 fights a year. It says it is looking for quality not quantity, but I am a firm believer in the strength of the product, he said. The coverage for the channel, including daily behind-the-scenes updates in the build-up to Haye vs Chisora, is produced by Input Media with South East Asian broadcast provider Zoom Communications. ****** said he may be on the lookout for more original programming in the future.
Bloody good luck to them as well! I've noticed all this "Boxnation is ****" bollocks has calmed down recently.
Boxnation is class. The only downside is Bunce's continuing chumminess with the idiot and disgrace to the sport Chisora, who makes Herbie Hide look classy.
Hes gota get the stream or a channel sorted for Germany for Haye Chisora There was a poll on RTL (i think) that said 75% of germans were mad to see the fight, considering ARD pulled out
What a **** way to look at it. It's not that they're willing, it's that it's their only way to watch the fight. They charge £5 a bottle for water at festivals and people are willing to buy it because it's better than the alternative. Doesn't make it right. If Frank ran Glastonbury he'd charge for air. 'Sky wanted good fights, I thought what's the point? You can just mug the public off with Cleverly vs Karpency. These proles will buy anything'
I agree this just totally sums up Franks way of looking at it, money grabbing greedy focker without a care in the world for the fan!
I agree that is probably the case with him, and in an ideal world we would all get everything we want for less or even free. However............. He is a business man, the same as the other promoters, and likewise with the people in charge at Apple, Sony, Tesco, Man Utd, Sky etc (the list goes on). I'm not defending Frank's attitude to making as much money as possible, I just want to point out that it's nothing new. It happens to us all everyday from the moment we get up until the time we go to bed, everytime we fill our car up with fuel, evrytime we go on a train or a plane, everytime we buy our groceries, or pay our utility bills. That's what business men and women do, they make money, if they don't they are fired! This content is protected
It's not even $79, is it? I'm quite sure that it's about $60, with some providers charging an extra $10 for HD.
I got ya, its just the way that its written, he would be aswell saying Boxnation going International and I can charge you what I want well up to XX number of dollars cos thats what you pay now!
