Boxrec #10 HW Franklin Lawrence in such bad shape on fight night it gets cancelled

Was the problem Lawrence or Mollo? Light News reports that an irregularity was found on Mollo's MRI.

It may have been Mollo who was ruled medically unfit.

How do you know Lawrence cancelled, and what, if anything was wrong with him?

Jowett reporting: The booming fight scene here at Dover Downs Casino/Racetrack underwent a 911 drill when the local debut of heavyweight Franklin Lawrence had to be scratched after opponent Mike Mollo failed the physical. The MRI reportedly revealed an old football injury to a neck vertebra. Good matchmaking kept the card alive, with the invaders keeping the heroes honest. But with no Tiberi on a Delaware show save matchmaker Nick, the crowd was a little less than the usual SRO. And the best that can be said about the promoted main event was that the judges scored it honestly.

 

I mean, it isn't like we were robbed of a fantastic war between Lawrence and Mollo...and the winner certainly isn't making any noise in the division... :conf

Still, it's a shame to hear about stuff like this happening. Can't even past a medical. :-(

 

I'd read in a few places that it was Lawrence who failed his exam. :think

 

lawrence usually is in shape. he fight for 12 rounds throwing hard shots the whole 36 minutes

 

Oliver McCall had Lawrence purring like a pussycat in 2009. Intimidated him and bulled him around for 10 rounds. Was close, but Lawrence was so emasculated that the judges decided they had to give it to Oliver.

Lawrence was hurt once late in the fight, too.

 

Yeah, saw that one......what does ppl see in this cat anyhow. Average power. Average D. Average handspeed. Average punch resistance. He has shown above average stamina, but nothing to make one believe he is anything more than a gatekeeper type limiting his earning abilities by not fighting regularly against top 100 opposition.:rofl

 

You saw it? I didn't, but heard a lot about it. The feedback I get is that the decision was reasonable. It could have gone either way, and Lawrence maybe landed more, I'm told. But allegedly Oliver turned him into a girlfriend...bullied him, backed him up, left him on the verge of tears...took away his manhood.

Oliver got cut for the only time in his career, but had Yah Yah hurt late, they tell me.

 

I've seen Yah Yah on youtube, and I agree he isn't fast. He carries himself like The Mummy...a big zombie.

But I thought Lawrence showed power and strength. You don't agree?

 

Against very average opposition. But nothing like David Rodriguez or even Arreola against similar LOC.

And to say he couldn't hurt Ollie is an understatement. From what I remember he couldn't even keep him honest. Tiggy more than kept him honest. Oquendo and Boswell kept him honest. Hell, even Whitaker kept him honest.

This is a guy who has feasted on a steady diet of club fighters and bad one's at that. His biggest exploits are against journeymen like Gavern and Firtha. I think he might have lost the fight with Ahunanya as well.

Yet somehow, even at 36 y/o with no big fight prospects......ppl continue to think he's something of a contender.:huhatsch
