NOTHING gets worse than this and I mean NOTHING. A man is ranked above an active heavyweight for talking trash and having ONE Heavyweight fight, a former Cruiserweight that is.

With all the fights Povetkin has had already, impressive fights with solid victories over top active heavyweights even so early in his career he's rated lower than a guy who did NOTHING but talk trash and have one heavyweight fight against a can.

Someone needs to tell Boxrec that this isn't a popularity contest and as a fan of Haye I admit that Povetkin not only would wipe the floor with him in the Olympics, he would also destroy him in a professional fight. Haye has done nothing to be ranked ANYWHERE in the heavyweight division right now.

hate to agree with tommy, a notorious hayematrix fan but imo povetkin does not have heavy hands. i dont see the snap or power. he throws excellent inside combinations though with very good handspeed. i like his 2-fisted skill too. he can do damage with both hands which is rare for hws. probably only behind wladimir is terms of offensive skills in the division

i would say average power too. but please don't compare frazier's power to povetkin. frazier had a moster left hook that could ko an elephant.

right now i rank povetkin pretty highly. i mean, haye is real talented and all but he hasnt proven much at 200+ so id probably pencil him in between 15-20 right now til he shows what he can do

    1-Wlad
    2-Peter
    3-Povetkin
    4-Valuev
    5-Sultan
    6-Chagaev
    7-Thompson
    8-Chambers
    9-Gomez
    10-Vrichis

Won more than one fight as a HW?

I'm a huge fan of Haye...but there really isn't much of an explanation for this other than the fact that his ability to talk trash has already gotten him big booking.

Something tells me in 4-5 years Haye vs Povs will be a pretty big fight in the HW division.

Yep, Povetkin is overrated because he had a stellar amateur career behind him, and fought decent opposition early on. He was hyped up a lot therefore.

I remember when he was beating the likes of Larry Donald, and it was taken as a given that he would be the next true HW champ.

The guy is severely limited in a number of areas, he has pretty crap power, he leaves himself very open to right hands....

...He is small, there is very little chance of him beating Wlad.

Having said that, Povetkin does hold some good HW wins, Chambers, Donald, Byrd etc, and of course he should be ranked above Haye at this point.

As a general rule of thumb posters who make threads about boxrec ratings should be strung up by the balls and executed.

Because Haye is Heavyweight now and thus they upgrade all of Haye's fights as "heavyweight".

This is by the way no different than at a ringwalk announcement like "23 victories 1 defeat" etc. The ring announcers also don't make the distinction between victories in different weight classes.

This is why Rocky Marciano or Dempsey are considered heavyweight although Marciano participated in 0 heavyweight fights and Jack Dempsey only in 1 (against a 0-3-0 bum).

Such announcements and calculation get more and more bizarre the heavier the heavyweight division gets.

The RATING of a boxer BY WEIGHT DIVISION MUST STOP.

The RATING of a boxer by ACTUAL WEIGHT MUST BEGIN.

Um Povetkin is about 6'3", despite being listed at 6'2" and 227, Haye is 6'3" and 215, exactly how is Povetkin small but Haye not?
