Boxrec new rankings rates Mayweather #1 P4P All-time, Pacman #4.

That is a dreadful list. They're scoring system is a shambles.

 

I agree. Youre only as great as who you beat. What are Floyds best 5 wins? Shot Pac 5 years too late? Two divisions smaller Marquez? overrated Canelo? Old shot Oscar? Completely shot Gatti? Overrated smaller Hatton? Diego Corrales is his best win and that was over a really good but not great fighter. Unbelievably Floyd was actually an underdog in that fight. Floyd has ZERO wins against any prime all time greats so how he can even be regarded as among the greatest nevermind the greatest is beyond me.

 

It's for this very reason that I don't mind that people think he doesn't make Top 50.

 

Boxrec has a much flawed ranking system, it doesn't much factor in caliber of opposition. Its machine gives fighters a certain number of points for beating a world champion when that champion may have been a paper champion years ago and is no better than a journeyman now.

Both Mayweather and Pacquiao ranked higher than Ali and Duran?

Lets be real here........I don't think either Mayweather or Pacquiao crack a top 10 list of any credible boxing historians p4p list.

If you have 5 guys who are still active or retired in the last year in your p4p top 11 all time list, YDKSAB. That should tell you all you need to know about how accurate your system is.

Wait, what is Azumah Nelson doing ahead of Harry Greb? He's good. He's not that good. Maybe, he would be if he'd beaten Pernell Whitaker and Salvador Sanchez instead of getting beaten by them. Gomez and Fennech were great scalps but number 12 is stretching things.

 

That list is great. Just remove Wlad and place Lewis there.

 

It must give lots of extra points for a title fight since most of those guys have about 30. Except I think that Monzon only had 7. That would explain why Mayweather or Hopkins would be up there with Joe Louis and Ali. If the boxrec algorithm doesn't make a distinction between holding any one of the four or more modern titles and holding the title back when there was only one in each division then I guess that's the kind of list it might compile.

 

Yeah, the multiplication of belts and divisions is going to stack the deck decisively in modern boxer's favor.
