Concepcion/Cazares I don't know a ton about except they're both very aggressive, Concepcion is smaller but a bit faster and more explosive. Cazares is a bit ponderous, well, especially against somebody like Calderon he was but he's quite heavy handed and a consistent pressure type so I think you have to back him over a smaller, hittable guy that does not use boxing ability or his feet.

Joyi UD - Bit of a different pick here, but I really think he could beat Segura just on conventional boxing ability. Joyi is not spectacular but has good technique and to me Segura is a very wild fighter that relies on power. How Joyi copes with that power would probably be key.

 

I don't agree that Montiel stops Nishioka myself.

 

Hasegawa is better than Nishioka IMO. Quite a lot of comparisons to be made actually.

 

I'd say Nishioka would be any more likely to get stoppe though. Montiel was very cagy in leading Hasegawa to attempt his kamikaze attacks when he had built sufficient toy in confidence. He caught him with a fantastic counter and the rest is history.

Nishioka is a strong 122lber, with fairly fast hands, and the ability to pepper and move as well as trade it out. But he seems more likely to try and land that looping left rather than steam into Montiel and get smashed. He seems pretty sturdy too, dropped early by 'Sporadically Succesful' Gonzalez but recovered well quickly.

Now, I thik Montiel is a big, big puncher, and notthe slugger some people that have only heard the hype on Nonito and hang off him, seem to be making him out to be at the moment. I do think he sets traps well, finishes brilliantly and seems to be able tk make adjustments. But Nishioka can too. Bar being Japanese and southpaws that are primarily aggressive, I think Montiel is unlikel to stop Nishioka, bar injuring him.

I have no idea how it would go to the cards. I really wrote Mo riel off when he first lved up to Bantam, then TkO/NC bollocks and he'd looked uninspiring at super-fly IIRC, the fight with Mijares never came off and everyone else seemed to getting the big fights.

But he's had a resurgance as of late, would I say he cannot stop Nishioka? No. But I don't thik Nishioka would be as susceptible to walking into the fire that Montiel can bring.

 

I do think that overall Hasegawa is the better fighter. Based on Burgos not being as bad a I expected him to be, I quickly warmed to the idea of him fighting at 126. I think Nishioka is a different fighter though. He has more experience for sure.

 

Interesting that a lot of the supposedly lighter guys would be likely favourites. Just shows how unnecessary (apart from financially) all the divisions are.

Some great fights there. My favourite would even at this stage be Cotto v Mayweather. It should've happened in 2008 after Floyd beat Hatton but would still be a good fight now.

Marquez beats Bradley (just about but what a great fight this could be)

Montiel beats Nishioka (whoever's home wins a decision but Montiel's just the better boxer)
Luis Concepcion beats Hugo Fidel Cazares (another close one though for me)
Joyi beats Segura

 

Yes there are differences. Nishioka is cagier than Hasegawa, he uses his legs more. Probably smarter even. But I think they are still very much comparable except for being Japanese. They both have good handspeed, southpaws, the same deadly left hand, they make a lot of similar movements presumably similar schooling. Even if Nishioka uses his legs I don't think its the best way to beat Montiel who has that Cotto stalking like quality in his locker if needed.

I back Donaire to beat Montiel by standing with him and using his advantages, I don't think Nishioka has the physical makeup to do it.
