Really? Maybe they know something the rest of us don’t know? how can you name a guy who has 1 fight at the weight under his Belt Over a guy who has ALL the belts (that matter) in the division?
It was true rankings in the begining, first they make people believe they're legit, rating which everyone was able to calculate what it will be after the fight if side A or side B wins. Now you have no idea how it works. No logic, no rules, just "politics".Boxrec is not what it was.And step by step it will became just worse
I try to avoid jumping on ratings being political, but some of the conversations in the ranking threads on their site points to that being a real possibility. The bottom line on discussions about improved methodology seems to be "the boxrec board" wants it this way. It's inexplicable. Of course there will be anomalies, but to have Davis above the the undisputed champion Taylor, should be a red flag that the system needs improvement.
I already knew the system has been corrupted for long. Only visit it for the records, nothing more. For the ratings, RingTV is still the better one these days.
Thanks for making this thread, because i was thinking about it. Particulary why are Lomachenko and Estrada not even in top 20, but they have ****ing Callum Smith at 17, what the ****ing ****?
I suspect that their rating now is almost 0 worth. If earlier okey, merit's base is legit base despite current boxer's shape and no one in real is able to know this, then this: Usually as most well known belts are considered IBF, WBA and WBC, WBO orgs belts, The Ring , lineal, etc. If they are able to rank someone who does have WBA Super, WBC, WBO and IBF titles lower than someone with 1 WBA belt? This is the same if even we will compare Wilder vs Ruiz Jr. Wilder get a draw vs then beltless Fury and had lost WBC title vs the same Fury. Ruiz Jr. had won belts vs champ who had held multiple belts via stoppage and had lost them by decision vs the same champ. Also Wilder is ranked higher than Whyte.
Maybe you are correct especially if bear in mind cherry pick that had gone wrong vs then 40 y. 11 months old Povetkin. Being 32 y.o and looks that 252 lbs, Whyte had been finished by a small HW boxer in old Povetkin coming out from a draw. All excuses how Whyte had hurt Povetkin before get stopped are noise. To see hurt fighter anyone might google Huck vs then in prime Glowacki, how looks heavily hurt boxer after 1 landed punch and how easy is to process further such boxer. Or Cunningham vs Huck too. Boxrec looks that now maybe is more pro american and pro vs boxers under big US promoters? For me boxrec ranking some year ago looked pretty realistic and also usable. Now I do not know.
On what basis? If you look at Wilders resume it's considerably worse than Whytes. If Wilder had never held a belt, it'd be debatable whether he was that comfortably in the top ten - a lot like someone like a Jarrel Miller or Luis Ortiz, those guys haven't held a belt and dont have a serious legit resume so whilst some may advocate for them H2H there's little basis for ranking them above the guys that have fought serious opponents. I do think Wilder is probably top 5, I just don't think there's much evidence I can really use to back it up and that's all his own fault for refusing to build a serious resume and instead deciding to duck the guys with the resumes to give him a serious boost (Wlad, AJ, Povetkin, Whyte). As it stands, we know only that his level sits somewhere between Ortiz (who also has a hollow resume and is debatable as to whether he was ever actually top ten or not) and Fury who is clearly levels above him... And that's a pretty huge spread of potential levels, isn't it?
Also ask yourself... "Why do they rate Wilder above Usyk?" They clearly include achievements at lower weights, so how does an undisputed champ who basically beat everyone and then moved up rank below a guy with a hollow resume? Basically, their algorithm is pretty much trash.
Whyte's resume is not all its cracked up to be. The only decent win is Parker and imo Parker nearly stopped him in the 12th and if there 1 more round he would have been KO'ed, he also scored a Headbutt knockdown in that fight. Chisora isn't a good win and Povetkin iced him then got in the ring with Covid for a last PPV loot bounty before retiring. Wilder has Fury x 2 and 2 wins over Ortiz. Personaly i rank Wilder's Resume better than Whyte's
