boxrec rankings SUCK

They have Dirrell ranked higher than Froch.... who beat Dirrell.....

They have Allen Green ranked higher than Miranda... who beat Green...

They have Bute no. 1 despite no having fought anyone in their top 10....

 

isn't it based completely on a point system they cooked up? from my understanding, it's actually pretty impartial, although definitely flawed

 

Have a look at the new Light Middleweight rankings. Margo #2, Cotto #6 lol

 

It is based on a point system of who you've beaten, lost to, etc.
That means that Ward having one big win over Kessler doesn't put him above all of the significant wins that Kessler has had. (remember, Ward only has 21 fights, to Kessler's 45.)

 

kessler was champ, and just beat a champ. Ward was not a champ and was not rank and beat a champ. Their latest fight accomplishment was similar, but Kessler's previous history is greater. doesn't take into emotions or bias.

 

They need to have a look at their system of rankings.

The guy who created Boxrec himself said there rankings are not to be taken seriously.

 

It's computerized. Damn we must have a thread like this all the time.

 

Seriously there should be a sticky thread with the thread title: "Yes we know that boxrec rankings suck, so please don't post about it".

 

The main reason why all rankings are flawed -even the IBO's computer rankings- is because of the loads of different belts. It's possible to be pulverised in one world title bout, and win a other organisations 'World Championship' in the next. There is no way to have a ranking system without at least a few flaws, but long as the situation stays this way they stay as big as they are.
