Thaxton's shite performances have put a bit of a downer on it.

Yeah, its doesn't look as attractive a fight as it did 12-18 months ago.

Murray will go for him though and I don't feel he's got an iron chin. If Jono can pull out the kinda' shot he did against Melero..................

John Murray faces his biggest test to date when he faces Jon Thaxton for the vacant British lightweight title this Saturay (October 3).
Murray was stripped of the title in the summer for coming in overweight against Stoke challenger Scott Lawton, whom he still proceeded to clout in six rounds, the Lonsdale Belt at stake for Lawton only. Murray was just a few ounces over and if anything it is Thaxton who is horribly tight at the weight, which explains a mixed run of form for the Norfolk banger recently, including a shock loss of the coveted European lightweight title to gutsy Frenchman Anthony Mezaache earlier this year, followed by another stunning points setback to unheralded Essex boy Tom Glover in an eight-rounder, a man subsequently outclassed by Thaxton’s stablemate John O’Donnell. Glover, it should be said, enjoyed natural weight on Thaxton but the Mezaache setback was a sickener and cost Thaxton a high world ranking. Thaxton had won the European title with a stunning three-round knockout of Juan Carlos Diaz Melero.
Murray, in contrast, has been rolling along nicely since he won his old British title (made vacant by Thaxton) with a five-round mauling of fellow Manchester man Lee Meager last year, retaining it against Lee McAllister in fine style too. Murray also did a number on Lawton, despite his weight shenanigans. The former Young Boxer of the Year, still only 24, looks ready for this step up against veteran Thaxton, a pro since 1992, much of it at light-welterweight, which explains Jon’s gaunt appearance at lightweight. Nevertheless, Thaxton can really crack and likes to jump on his opponents and had Mezaache stunned in the first round and Ricky Hatton badly cut from the opening seconds of a 12-round war back in 2000.
Murray, one of those aggressive, relentless fighters, can be tagged and busted up, although he is hard to discourage as a record of 27-0 (15) suggests.
Murray is a workaholic. Some said he looked lucky to outscore Youssef Al Hamidi in an eight-rounder quite recently but from ringside he looked like a clear winner and rocked the Yorkshire-based Syrian in the last. Hamidi just fought in spurts; Murray fights non-stop. He starts quickly, like Thaxton, and maintains his hot pace. Can the ageing Thaxton?
The fresher, hungrier, more ambitious Murray comes through a war.

To be fair, I have seen quite a large proportion of Murrays fights and I can't remember him ever really being buzzed by a shot

What a **** matchup, Thaxton lost to a journeyman in his last fight and was out hugged by that French dude.
