According to Boxrec, the "official record keeper of boxing" ... * Victor Galindez was never a light heavyweight champion. * Muhammad Ali never regained the heavyweight title for the third time against Leon Spinks. * Boom Boom Mancini never won the Lightweight Title for his dad. * Thomas Hearns was never a welterweight champion. * Pipino Cuevas was never a welterweight champion. * There was never a WBA Heavyweight tournament after Ali was stripped of his title. * Jimmy Ellis never won nor defended the WBA title. * John Tate, Mike Weaver, Michael Dokes, Gerrie Coetzee, Greg Page and Bonecrusher Smith never won anything, either. The list goes on and on and on. At the moment, they haven't purged NBA champions' records. Not sure why, since that's the WBA. But nobody over there has probably figured that out yet. If so, most NBA champs in history will never have actually won anything, either. Glad we having someone keeping track of boxing history over there. What morons.
...the corruption has always existed. Wasnt a fan of BoxRec personally anyway. Real fight fans dont need arbitrary rankings to help understand skill and aptitude in the fight game. We DO need less "champs" and more unifications between top fighters. So, get rid of boxrec, wba, wbo, wbc, ibf, and all that nonsense. Hell, Turki can make 1 belt now and that belt is all that matters. I would fully support that project
I just looked into this stuff, I’d never heard of this and seeing the names I thought you were joking and referring to something from a decade and a half ago…. ….holy hell!

It is definitely good to hear what Fres thinks about that. How long will he remain ranked in the top 15 by the WBA? This content is protected DubblechinObsessed with BoxingFull Member I just want to say upfront that the World Boxing Association and their various belts in each weight class - Super, Regular and Interim - are a plague on the sport. That said, regarding Fres Oquendo specifically, how has the World Boxing Association hurt him, exactly? Honestly, if anything, the organization has been damaged as they've bent over backwards trying to support Fres Oquendo, who was in his 40s and all but retired when this saga began. * The WBA granted him a title shot when he didn't deserve one. Fres clearly LOST his fight with Chagaev, which is always left out when this topic is brought up. He did nothing in that fight to warrant a return - other than it was contractually obligated. * The WBA honored the contract and granted Fres an immediate rematch, and Fres got injured in training and couldn't fight, which you think would break the original deal, since Fres is the one who pulled out. * The WBA agreed to allow Fres to fight the winner of Chagaev and Oquendo's replacement (Lucas Browne - who was juicing). The WBA's testing requirements CAUGHT Browne, otherwise Oquendo would've faced a juicer. * The WBA agreed to let Fres fight Chagaev for the vacant belt, but Chagaev decided to retire. * The WBA agreed to let Fres fight for the vacant title against Shannon Briggs and, again, the WBA's drug policy caught Briggs juicing. Otherwise, Oquendo would've faced the heavily juiced Briggs. * The WBA agreed to let Fres fight the vacant title against Alexander Ustinov and Oquendo's own team told the WBA that Oquendo was retired. So they made Charr-Ustinov. Charr won. * The WBA was told by Fres he wasn't retired, so the WBA allowed Oquendo to fight Charr for the belt. Then, because of the WBA's drug policy, Charr was caught juicing. Then Charr threatened to sue the WBA. Then Trevor Bryan wanted a shot at Charr, because this nonsense has been going on forever.
Read their post scrip on bottom of their posts > They are NOT an official record keeper & do not guarantee the accuracy of their listings
Jeez Man the corruption is rife its totally wrecked the legitimacy of the sport. Ask any casual fan their opinion they'd pretty quick tell you that boxing has become the latest Sports ENTERTAINMENT Show & not a legitimate Combat sport any more WWE 11
Dysfunctional. Poorly advised self uppercut by boxrec. It actually helps the WBA achieve what they want ...
Id like to see more serious boxrec alternatives, competition is a good thing for innovation. MMA Tapology records cancelled fights for example. Has an easier to read interface https://www.tapology.com/fightcenter/fighters/209448-tim-tszyu
I've been calling the WBA HW Regular Belt "The Island of Misfit Toys" because it's attracted all sorts of flotsam and jetsam that just couldn't hack it in the heavyweight mainstream anymore. And it somehow feels fitting. The canceled fights thing is pretty cool. Probably useful for people actually involved with the sport too. You can check a possible opponent's record and see if he's a flake.
