Does anybody actually agree with this ? 1 Joe Calzaghe 2 PBF 3 Kelly Pavlik 4 Bernard Hopkins 5 Isreal Vasquez 6 Manny Pac 7 JMM 8 Winky Wright 9 Rafael Marquez 10 W Klitschko What do Boxrec actually use for their rankings ? They are never in line with common consensus.
I have no idea! How anyone could have Haye above Hatton, and Klitschko above Cotto is dumb! They are nearly as bad as the BBC - who randomly moved Winky Wright from 9 to 7 last month, for no reason!
To be fair I removed Winky from mine completely due to inactivity. As for boxerec - no idea where they get that from!
Winky's removed from mine due to sucking My Top 10 P4P 1. PBF 2. Calzaghe 3. Paq 4. Cotto 5. JMM 6. Hopkins 7. Pavlik 8. Rafael Marquez 9. Hatton 10. Margarito
I would have Pacman above JC, Israel Vasquez in there at 8, Rafa Marquez 9 and Hatton 10. Perhaps Bhop and Pavlik are a little high but no list is perfect.
Ridiculous! Kelly pavlik @ #3 ?! And Winky Wright? Even if he hadn't been inactive for ages he's coming off a loss and a draw and I never thought he was that good to start with. More interestingly, they have Abraham and (until yesterday) Witter in the top 25 but not Kessler or Taylor. Utter bollocks (same site also have rated Bute over Kessler). And Cotto only #20 ?!?! I can agree with Calzghe if only because of activity
its a very stupid list for a computer who should know it all... pac too low, calzaghe too high, pavlik too high, hop too high, almost every order in that list is **** up
Calzaghe ain't P4P No. 1! Floyd has a bloody good resume and has never looked like losing - whilst Joe has been in losing positions against Kessler and Hopkins before coming from behind. I suppose it depends what you look for.
At the moment, Calzaghe on the basis that he beat Bernard who is higher ranking than any Paq beat recently, as well as repeated successes by Calzaghe with Paq being hindered by a few tough decisions. But, Cotto is my tip for next P4P #1 after FMJ retires.
Agree completely, Floyd has also fought more seasoned recognised fighters, not to take away from Joe but he's no FMJ.
Boxrec is a computer based ranking system. Very logical, everyone gets the same points for the different type of wins. But if you defeat bums, you don't get many points. If you defeat legends, you get very good points. And those legends gained points based on the same system, so you can call it objective. The reason that Calzaghe is first is because he defeated guys with a lot of computer points (gained from Lacy, Kessler but especially Hopkins. Hopkins got a lot of points defeating Winky (who gained from Mosley, Tito) and Tarver (who defeated Roy and Johnson). It's not an expert list, because the computer just can't count in skills and bad judging (Bradley's gained less points because of the SD), but in the meantime, it's very indipendent from subjective opinions. The only subjective opinion is how the ranking system works. So if the algorithm shows 90% the same rankings currently and all time as the most respected subjective rankings, it's a good list. Boxrec today is like 70%.
computerized rankings suck ass. boxrec has actually got de la hoya as their #1 JMW since he beat Forbes. Nuff' said, right?
