Benn started at 160 and outboxed G-man at 168.

 

To be fair it's one of kuntiest divisions to rank.

 

Using Box Rec for ratings is like using a torch to find the dark. Useless. Like that list.

 

He got a gift in one Hopkins fight. Got a gift against Wright. Got a gift against Spinks. He got his ass beat by Pavlik.

 

I thought he got a gift in the Taylor rematch.

 

How many international contenders did harry Greb fought? How many was boxing their full time job and not a part-time thing on the side? What was the total win-loss ratio of his opponents record?

Can’t rate fighters pre-1950. Largely a domestic sport for scrappers. A bit like the first MMA fights between tough guys.

 

We will never really know whether Benn's performance was the main cause of G-man's injury or whether G-man was already damaged goods going into the fight and that made Benn look better than he was at that time.

I suspect it was more the later but we will never know for sure. Benn was certainly fired up that night like never before but I suspect Benn was shot to some degree already.

A lot of people feel fortune was on his side with those Hopkins decisions.
Then the fights with Spinks, Winky, Pavlik and Ouma.

Taylor was clearly really good, but not elite. I think he gets the credit he deserves, often even more than he should get.
