The post 2012 olympics boxing boom in UK has finished tbh. It's not just Shalom.

A lot of low rate guys made big bank in that era.

There's not been many stars coming up since then as kids are soft now and a lot of parents are clued up that boxing isn't good for under 16s, so the sport has to compete with grappling/mma for participation of the already low numbers.

Yep, the 'British boxing boom' ended about 2018/19. It's crap now. The increase in promoters hasn't helped but even still the there's no real headliners anymore outside of Fury/Joshua unless someone does their own city in a smaller arena. Gone are the days where you could stick Haye, Khan, Froch, Groves etc anywhere in the country and they'd pack it out.

Sky potentially could have capitalised on getting Taylor on the platform but then his first fight as a Sky fighter caused loads of controversy and a lot of people went off him.

More worryingly though there seems to be nobody coming through. The last Olympics crop won't do anything except maybe Whittaker but he’ll have to be moved fast to maintain interest or he’ll end up like Buatsi. Next years Olympics could potentially produce a 'star' as UK viewership will be higher with it being the first Olympics with a crowd in 8 years and on TV at a more convenient time.

This is why the whole "on sky sports" thing like it magically makes a difference needs to stop.

Being on sky sports is a huge thing but by default it doesn't mean big numbers. The fights still have to be fights people actually care about.

How you promote the Billam-Smith v Okolie rematch I have no idea.

You are trying to sell a fight where one of the fighters is more concerned with holding than fighting.

    The source, for anyone interested.

Unfortunately it doesn't include the Sky Sports Action (or whatever non-Main Event channel it was on) / Showcase figures. Would expect the Showcase number to increase the numbers significantly.

Could not care less about number of viewers but stick the same fight on BT Sports or the small one channel DAZN UK and the numbers will be a small fraction of Sky Sports viewers.

Channel 5 is the daddy in this debate.

One of the main promoters should do a joint deal with C5. The odd live event with a main event to keep people engaged, some "next gen" type shows in collaboration with the small hall promoters, and highlights / delayed coverage of the rest.

Odd how the creator of the tweet hasn't included the figures for sky showtime (assuming they are available) as clearly that's where the absolute lions share of people watched it which kind of makes their point pretty irrelevant. That channel caters for all sky viewers and not only sports subscribers

The card for July 1 as of now (remove Heffron Chelli and Jonas is fighting for a World Title at 147):

This is clashing with Dalton Smith Sam Maxwell card for Matchroom in Sheffield. Which card will everyone be watching ? I am hoping Ben Whittaker gets a big step up in his 4th fight but we are almost 2 weeks away and he still has no opponent announced.

I'll watch Whittaker then switch. The Boxxer card is woeful. And I'm not having a go I pay for both, but that's a really weak card.

Surely they have to cancel this card with no Heffron vs Chelli either.

It's bare isn't it. You surely can't put that on even if they get a knock over for Chelli. Although I suspect Chelli would fight a tough opponent at late notice. He has a great attitude. Love his old man too, he's great on Facebook so proud of his lad.

Do you think Sky would have Frank back? Did they part on good terms. Not that people ever do with Frank. Although BJS and Sunny appear to have.

I disagree mate. There's loads of talent coming up.

Pat McCormack, Peter McGrail, Ben Whittaker, Cyrus Pattinson, Hopey Price, Royston Barney-Smith, Nick Ball, Andrew Cain, Sam Noakes, George Liddard, Dennis Mccann, Moses Itauma, Joe McGrail and so on.
