Yesterday you said 'Ben Shalom is looking a mug, he has a show on Sep 2nd & Oct 21st and nothing else on the horizon'

Now your implying he has a show planned on Sep 30th to clash with Matchroom.

So which one is it? You really should stop listening to those imaginary sources of yours!

On second thoughts, please do.....these comical contradictions are pure entertainment

Did you watch the video. He wanted to make Opetaia against Riakporhe on September 30. That doesn’t mean there will be a show on September 30.

Right now there are only 2 shows on October 21 and September 2. Apparently there is also one at York Hall on September 15/16 headlined by Viddal Riley for the English Title against Quarless but this hasn’t been announced yet.

Says Honest Ed, so it must be true! I did watch the interview and my guess is we will never see that Email from Shalom that Eddie talks about because it probably doesn't exist.

Good news if there is another Sept show coming, Boxxers schedule Has been far, far too light. I think the 2 shows they have planned are great. Smith vs Eubank 2 is a good fight with a strong card, (i will pay for tht one) Buatsi vs Azeez a brilliant main event - hopefully they will have some good fights when they announce the card. But no doubt, although the quality has been good the quantity has been poor, I would of expected a lot more shows this year.

You write some brilliant posts, genuinely I really enjoy your fight night scoring / round by round analysis, its always a good read and seems a fair reflection. I just don't get why you have to be so OTT in your praise for matchroom in every other post.we all have our preffered people in the sport but some of the posts come across like you get commission from every DAZN sign up!

New signing for Boxxer - Mick Hennnessy's daughter. Also apparently Boxxer are trying to negotiate a deal for Riakporhe to fight Goumalirian for his WBA World Cruiserweight Title, but Tommy McCarthy already has a contract to fight Goumalirian. I expect Boxxer to try and pay McCarthy some money and maybe get him a fight on Sky / guarantee him to fight the winner in the hope Riakporhe can land the title shot before the end of the year.

I also believe Boxxer are trying to figure out how to stage Billam-Smith vs Okolie II since Okolie wants to exercise the rematch clause. The first fight was only possible due to it being staged at the Vitality Stadium. Financially they'd have to wait until the summer for a rematch unless they want to lose a lot of money on the show. I believe Shalom is trying his best convince Okolie to move up to heavyweight and not activate the rematch clause.

I would imagine there is an email, but it probably says something along the lines of “we would appreciate if this could be kept confidential....” rather than Hearn’s version.

I also find it interesting that suddenly the talk is Opetia is coming to the UK to fight On Sept 30th- the same date proposed by Boxxer for to fight Riakporhe. If that’s the case, what happened with this Australian money they were talking about - why is he coming over here to fight Thompson?

Opetia is not exactly a known name in the UK and neither is Thompson. What’s the business idea behind all of this.. Suddenly what Shalom was saying about MR only getting involved to mess them about/being concerned about proof of funds from Australia to make a deal etc doesn’t sound so ridiculous to me.

Only a hater would complain about the number 1 cruiserweight in the world defending his world title in the UK against a UK opponent. They are clearly going to do Opetaia vs Briedis II in Australia instead next year as Briedis is mandatory. September 30 was always a date Matchroom planned to stage a show in the UK. They were originally going to do Cordina vs Barrett but Cordina didn't want to fight Barrett, so Cordina will defend his world title against Edward Vazquez instead in Monaco on November 4.

I have not complained about Opetia fighting in the UK - Why would it bother me. I have only pointed out what should be fairly obvious to those paying attention, that there is clear discrepancy in what Hearn and the Aussie promoters have been saying. There is a massive difference between staging a show based on a specific fighter in Cordina in Wales, than doing one with an unknown Australian guy against an unknown British prospect presumably in London or up north. The date might be the same, but it’s a completely different business package and I’m not sure how it makes any sense.

If somebody is a draw in your home country, with government funding backing you, you don’t usually take the risk of travelling abroad to defend your belt unless it’s for huge money/a prestigious fight etc.

I don’t really have any specific point to be honest and Im fine with Opetia - Thompson. I can just see from Shalom’s point of view why he feels he was being messed about with and that’s why he didn't play with the purse bids.

The amount of people from the UK who would recognise Opetaia or Thompson if they walked past them in the street is less than the amount that was at Sunny Edwards last fight once the Bosh Army had cleared off.

Not trying to be disrespectful, but it seems like Matchroom can't. win. If they headline with someone like Conor Benn who casuals know about, people will complain that someone is headlining against in a low-level fight. Then if a World Champion headlines like Sunny Edwards, Jai Opetaia or Joe Cordina, people will complain that they aren't well-known to casuals.

Although I doubt Opetaia vs Thompson will sell well, I'm sure Cameron vs Taylor II will be another sell-out, and that McCormack vs Ritson and Wood vs Warrington will do very well.

Could understand if they were bringing him over to fight a big name or someone who will fill an arena (like when Ogawa came over to fight Cordina) but absolutely nobody has heard of Thompson. Why not headline Opetaia in Australia seeing as they’re a global promotional company as Pedward keeps telling us.

    Exactly this.

Thompson is only getting the opportunity because he’s a childhood friend/family friend of Frank Smith.

Given the above, wouldn’t be surprised if Thompson comes from a wealthy family who’s sent a few coin Matchroom’s way over the years.

We all know the ‘cute’ story about Frank getting the job at Matchroom by selling Eddie a few raffle tickets but let’s not forget it goes deeper than that. Already a big relationship between the families, not just Eddie seeing some kid with a potential.

Whilst this is true, they could also put Benn in a proper fight too. Nobody should complain at that surely, even Benn claims to want it.
