Its a well known fact that Mayweather was a relative non entity in the ppv market before he fought Hoya. Same with Pac. So to quote his numbers before he was a real star, on fights without a 24/7 and who most experts thought would be one sided fights, doesn't make these numbers seem better. Its also comparing two different markets due to it being 7 years ago. A better comparison would be, that Chavez Jr and Martinez, did 100k better, on a night that Canelo was fighting for free on television at the same night and time, and to a sold out arena as well. idk.... I see what youre getting at but honestly, these numbers are not that good.
Huge purse for that kind of numbers, they were obviously expecting more. Pac was getting around 2mil for MAB/JMM/Morales fights which averaged 350-400k ppv pre-odlh. It takes more than just beating a ppv star to become a ppv star. They are getting the same treatment as Mosley and Hopkins when they beat big names like Tito and Oscar, their ppv stock didn't really go up that much.
Look, the Bradley and Marquez fight should have done better because these were two good boxers going at it. The fact that they only did 325 000 tells you the enormous difference between them and Money May. People want to state that Mayweather only blew up after De La Hoya, no doubt that fight helped Mayweather, but the flip side to that was that De Le hoya never did that huge of a number either so mayweather actually brought something to the table. Look at Mayweather's fights after that, he has done a remarkable job at promoting and making millions for himself while these others guys can't seem to connect with the fans. people often say mayweather is boring, he only puts on boxing clinics, and they are right about putting on boxing clinics come fight night. If you want to beat him, then you step your game up. It's like the lakers, Celtics, Bulls, pistons of old. They were dismantling teams, did people say it was boring to watch cause the other teams weren't that good. Mayweather is a student of the game in all aspects from fighting, promoting, and the general knowlegde of what goes on in the sport and how to overcome politics in the sport. mayweather deserves eveery dollar he has made, and has fought the best while doing so. The best may not be that good, but it is what it is.
It's because of Marquez that the numbers were that good. Bradley has no charisma he simply don't look good doing what he do. His fighting style is not appealing nor is his persona out of the ring. He is dull. No hate, that's just the way it is.
Thats a respectable number for two guys that have never been A sides. Gatti vs Floyd did about that when Floyd was breaking into PPV.
I'd say 375,000 is a respectable number for this fight. Not great but not bad either, seems the fight made decent money so everyone involved should be happy with this number.
Not bad and a great success. Remember guys this is average numbers for the smaller guys. Outside of Tyson and Oscar you didn't have guys doing these million dollar ppv events.
Nonsense. I, and many other hardcore fans, really wanted to see this. Marquez didn't want to make history the cheap way fighting a nobody.
