Not 2 weeks ago I posted I wouldn't be surprised if it falls through AND then I'm gonna bump that post. Hope it's just a rumor and stays a rumor so I won't have to search my stupid posts for my prophecy (had to do that when I predicted Ward-Dirrell will fall through, and it did). **** everyone involved if they can't sell a ****ing ticket for one of the most important all-American showdowns between two fighters in their prime.
Seems promoting a fighter in America is way harder than it is in the likes of Ireland/UK/Germany. Boxing is much healthier in Europe. Bradley's manager has come out and said it was just a rumour so no need to panic......yet!
It's not harder. It's a lot easier, bigger market, more networks, richer prizefighting culture, more money involved and all the talents in the world come to America so they don't even have to look for them. But the Shaws simply don't give a flying **** doing their job anymore, which is promoting fights, they just sit on their fat asses and negotiate with networks, managers and site owners/casinos from their couch. Canadian, Japanese, South African, German, UK, Filipino, Thai etc. promoters work their asses off spending a lot of money to build fighters up and they pack arenas and stadiums and do solid ratings. Yet if you put Bradley, Berto and Dawson on the same show you'll sell like 3000 tickets.
I voiced my concerns, too. I mean, for a fight that was taking place on Jan 29th, they sure did leave their promotional work (and training!) extremely late. But at the moment I'm treating it as a rumour, and nothing more.
I hope this is just bullsh*t gossip, but if Bradley bails on this fight at this late stage for a fatter payday with Khan I will be forced to root for Khan. Tim, don't make me do this!
There was less than 3,000 at Katsidis v Marquez. There's more money in tv rights etc but actually putting arses in seats generally doesn't happen in the US unless you're a superstar. There are one or two exceptions of course.
I don't understand the decision to stage it in Pontiac either. It should either be Vegas or Saint Louis. But Michigan? What the hell?
I guess Detroit offered good money for the fight, but, seriously, the seats are going to be empty. Even Manny Steward said this.
I'll just wait until we have something official. Horrible way to start 2011 off if ths does go tits up.
