    Local fans, friends and foreigners.

    Spain has like 40 million inhabitants, 11k people is nothing dude. There were 80k people at wembley watching a boxing match, you can ask Froch if you dont believe me, he will gladly tell you. You will never see 80k people in spain to watch a fight, NEVER.

    This card is in Bilbao, in the Basque country, which is pretty much a nation of itself. Perhaps they are bigger fight fans than Castilians / Catalans etc? Or, maybe, there is just an Athletic Bilbao / Real Sociedad player in the crowd who everyone wants to meet!

    One thing's for damn sure, they're massive cycling fans. Euskatel Euskadi used to be one of my favorite teams.

    Samuel Sanchez's old team? He always added interest to a punchy hill stage. From what I recall, most of the big teams used to train in the Basque country, before Tenerife became the de facto choice: the hills there seem to breed tough mofos. Although, the seeming opportunity for doping cannot be ignored (Sanchez in particular and and Spanish in general - Op Puerto). Pan y Agua indeed.

    Yeah, that's it, Sammy was one of my favorite riders, its a pity his career had to end on such a sour note, but my love of EE goes way back to 2000, I was a fairly big fan of Haimar Zubeldia, Igor Gonzalez De Galdeano, Iban Mayo and Egoi Martinez s well, Roberto Laiseka was also capable of livening up a race on occasion, they always made Le Tour exciting when it hit the Pyrenees.

    My knowledge of cycling isn't particularly deep. I read lots of autobiographies / biographies of cyclists, but don't own a bike and don't pay much attention to anything but the Grand Tours. I guess, I love the suffering, commitment, and shady side more than the actual cycling. But, every year I always make room on my TiVo for the daily Vuelta highlights - such an exciting race - always more fun and unpredictable than the F1-esque most-resources-wins TdF.

    I think that he is way overrated too. But one thing is for sure, he hits like a tuck. If skeete gets sloppy for whatever reason, he will be koed. So he better doesnt.
