If Bradley is up for it and they can agree terms quickly, why can't they set this fight up for April? The date is still 10 weeks away so it's a bit tight timing wise, but not impossible to get done IMO. It helps that Bradley will be fine with travelling to the UK as well.
Because HBO wouldn't allow it. You don't do Bradley Vs Khan in the UK, where the revenue can't be maximised. It's like throwing money away. Same reason Mayweather won't ever fight in the UK, or why Marquez Khan won't happen here. It would be the US
I agree this is what should happen. As was proved last night, Timothy Bradley just isn't a big enough name. That's why he played second fiddle to Devon Alexander last night even though Tim should have been the main guy. That's why the fight sold about 2000 tickets in Detroit. It could sell 20,000 over here and HBO would make just as much from the fight.
It's been proven that fights that are televised in Europe do poorer rating then those that are held in the States. In an ideal world this would happen but you know the way things are with Boxing they will come up with 99 minimal reasons for it to not happen.
No, no, no. Gate receipt is a minor factor when it comes to bouts at this level. The real money is in the broadcast revenue. The difference in fee between it being live on HBO PPV at primetime and not is huge.. into the millions. The only way you would ever get something like Khan Vs Bradley or Khan vs Marquez in the UK would be if it happened here but took place at 4.30am, so that it could be timed for US networks.. this wouldn't happen however as the logistics for keeping that many people in an arena are not feasible. In short. It won't happen
Is the revenue for Khan - Bradley likely to be that much more than Bradley - Alexander? It's not as if they are looking at even 1/2 million buys in the US
There is absolutely no chance that fight would be on PPV regardless of were it took place. It would be on regular HBO, but the costs of transmitting from the UK compared to doing it from let's say Vegas are huge and the viewership figures are usually down regardless of what time the fight takes place. Therefore it costs HBO more and they get less viewers equalling lost profit, which they will not be for on such a major fight.
But it would sell fairly well on UK PPV I would have thought, dunno whether it would generate more revenue than a regular HBO slot though. Both guys would want £1 mil +, 300-400k UK PPV buys would more than cover it
The revenue for Bradley Vs Khan is far far greater than Bradley Vs Alexander. HBO have been waiting a long time for this bout to take place. It's effectively the culmination of the Maidana,Khan, Bradley, Alexander 140lb tournament. They would promote it massively. Will it be on PPV on HBO.. well it for sure would be PPV in the UK. It would do a few hundred thousand buys. HBO paid 2 million dollars for Khan Vs Maidana, and offered 750k if it was aired on tape delay from the UK.. and this bout is of much greater profile. It will not happen in the UK
HBO would throw a license fee of around $2,500,000-$3,500,000 for that fight, it wouldn't do over 200,000 in the States so the profit would be minimal and would do more harm then good. It is hard to tell how many buys it would do here because Sky never release their figures but Khan-Maidana did well below 200k (according to Paul McCloskey's Manager) maybe something like 100k, so my guess would be that this fight would do around 200k at best.
Khan v Bradley on HBO PPV in America won't sell well. Khan v Bradley on Sky Box Office in the UK (10pm) will sell like hot cakes. Bradley has proven he can't sell for shít in the US. This fight makes the most money and the most sense in the UK. But I'd like to see Khan scrap his April 16th date, push the date back until the end of May and fight Bradley (this gives Bradley a bit more time to wind down before going into training camp). Then we have a April 30th date available and a month away from any other SBO boxing event and a date which suits Sky Sports and a certain German broadcaster. Catch my drift? :deal
Again, it doesn't add up. Simply because even when not on PPV the sums HBO offer are in excess of what it would do on PPV in the UK. HBO payed 2 million for Khan Vs Maidana. Would probably pay in the region of 3.5-4 million for Khan vs Bradley. In order for Sky to match this with a 10pm PPV they would have to sell in the region of 800k buys... which won't happen. The bout will get perhaps 200k-300k at best ( Even that is reaching.. the best primetime Frank Warren PPV's get around 125k-150K buys). Hence why even you when take into account it not being on US PPV, it still makes financial sense to hold the bout in the US.
Taking into account we are virtually in february how the **** can an april fight be a good idea for Bradley? Wont happen
