They should have put this on the Khan/Maidana undercard. Obviously, they'd have to take a loss, but they would get more attention after the fight. It seems very few people are interested in this bout, which is strange. Even on ESB, this fight isn't that noteworthy. By the way, there's an immediate rematch no matter who wins, right?
Oh ****, maybe they need to clear out their backyard and have a boxing ring there. They can collect a buck for those who want to go see the fight. Bonus for the early birds: free Buds and barbecue. :rofl:nut
Why is HBO not backing this? I thought they were bigging up the LWW tournie? I don't see why they wouldn't get behind the winner of this fight. Khan wasn't known in the states until they gave him good HBO exposure, if HBO got behind the American lads surely the winner would become a draw.
That's what's so bizzare. These are, in my opinion, two of the top 140 guys. Yet it's managed to draw very little excitement. Maybe it's because it's been crowded by a hefty November/December of boxing. And no, I don't think there is an immediate rematch. The idea was that they'd be challenged by the Khan/Maidana winner.
Few reasons why this fight isn't proving too intesting: Both looked a little poor in their last fight. they've both bitched about the fight and never really seemed that keen for it to take place - they've almost been forced into it. bradley is the better fighter but not that exciting. alexander is a slightly bigger draw, but looked really limited against kotelnik. gary shaw is involved. Cunningham comes accross as a tosser. its still 2 months off the fight and there is a lot of big fights before christmas. its been really poorly promoted.
True. This is why Alexander's team was complaining about Shaw yelling at him to do his job instead of mouthing off about Pacquiao. But Pacquiao won't take this fight. Too easy, not enough money. He needs to get up for his fights and Bradley isn't anything special in comparison. I think either the promotion gets rushed after Arum barks no, and the date is met. Or it gets pushed back. But I don't think it will go farther than that and it's not impossible that they still manage to pull off the scheduling for promotion, sales, and soforth in time.
The timing hasn't helped. From May to October boxing was dull as ditchwater, now there's big fights every week, all of boxings big stars seem to come out at the same time, April/May and October/November, nobodies going to notice this fight until it happens. The problem both of these guys are good fighters but neither have anykind of buzz about them really. It's amazing how you can unify two major titles and go as under the radar as Alexander has. But neither's had any big exposure on network tv, neither's got a big fanbase from their home town that sets them apart, I like Alexander particularily but neither is massively exciting or a big KO puncher which would catch attention, or a big personality to compensate for it. They're part of a generation of almost completely underground American fighters.
I blame HBO. They can hype up any fighter through their programming. They should force the guys to fight and then give plenty of exposure during the build up. That way, whoever wins will be a much bigger draw and if its a war the rematch could be hyped further.
Interesting. I know it was rumoured a while back, but maybe HBO wanted a fight with the winner of Khan/Maidana straight after instead.
Yeah I agree. I also think that HBO should sit back and let superstars develop naturally, rather than trying to force fighters down our throats (Berto, Pavlik etc). Those that emerge from a crowd of fighters that actually deserve the hype, should be getting HBO's attention.
Glad I spotted this. Was going to make one soon on the topic. I made one stating that the venue was already settled for St. Louis. Looks like they did a 360 on that. Maybe Bradley read some of the feedback from that on ESB Weirder things have happened. I'm not liking it, and if a venue isn't settled within another week, it's not happening, for sure. These guys will want a full 8 week training camp, at the least. They need to also promote the bout and do the Press Conference's etc. This is why my props go to GoldenBoy. They get the **** done. Once it's signed, you'll either have the Press conference and other things done within days of the signing, or the next week. If it doesn't happen, I'll be the first to rant about it.
