And Pacquiao got cut worst in the 5th rd against Morales & Never quit!! HBO should invest on exciting fighters! NOt these boring Guys. Next few will be better though. Donaire-Montiel wil rock! Daym HBO didnt Pay for Cotto-Mayorga! That will be exciting!!
I thought there were three rounds (2, 6, 8 ) that could have gone either way. If Bradley got all of those, it would have been 97-93, which I think is how some judges and Harold Ledderman called it. Merchant had it 96-94 Bradley. Steward said it could have gone either way. Neither guy was impressive. They both came in with a good game plan. Bradley: Pressure, cut off the ring, throw fewer shots but make them count. Right hand down the pipe when you can. Alexander: Stick and move, throw the right hook around the jab, clinch when close to keep from being worked over inside. Both guys did those things. The thing was, neither of them landed a punch that hurt the other guy. It was a **** fight.
I would love to be HBO's matchmaker. I would not air any fight unless it featured two guys who didn't run, didn't grab, liked to land meaningful punches. All others need not inquire. Then you'd see fights the fans truly get excited about. Forget records. Don't care if they have lost. I'd rather air an ass beater who loses here and there than a guy who runs and grabs and stinks his way to a W.
Kerry davis of HBO likes his fighters with fancy head movement, flashy footwork, limp-wristed, likes to punch the air and clinch lol. its a plus if they fight scared
I hear you, and it's sad. It's almost as if they TRY to put on the worst fights they can and to drive the fans away. Not sure what the logic is over there. When you pay out the most money, you would think you could demand the best fights that will be exciting wars. Fans don't want to see the best "boxers," they want to see the best FIGHTERS. There are too many entertainment options nowadays to give the public anything less.
Let's see: Khan/Bradley Alexander/Maidana Ortiz/Judah Rios/Peterson II (but with his older brother this time )
Sorry I couldn't be here for this, folks. As most of you know, a no-show by me for a big fight is very rare (this and Pac-Marg are the only major events to go down in the last few years without me reporting the action...both with good reasons). My thoughts fresh from watching are that it, to quote Emanuel Steward, "went exactly as I thought it would" for the most part: closely contested in terms of activity and accuracy, with Bradley pushing forward and doing the better and cleaner work in most rounds. I actually thought Lederman and the old men in the peanut gallery were insane to give Alexander the fifth. Watch that round again (the benefit of DVR allowed me to do so a few times). Yeah Alexander uses more foot work to stay moving and he does land a few shots, but he HARDLY established a clear edge in ring generalship (as claimed by Lampley) nor did he comfortably "outbox" Bradley. Look at their body language. Look who's still applying constant pressure and staying in punching range. Look at the # of times Alexander is made to miss. Look at the quality of shots landed - including the uppercut to the chest - for Bradley compared to the soft precipitation from Alexander. Ring generalship. Outboxed him. BS. So that is one more round for Bradey on my card than Lederman's (which was otherwise good, including the partial 10th to Bradley). 98-92. Bradley would win a rematch - again by UD (barring cuts). He would also beat Khan, who is comparable in speed and skill but much less of a FIGHTER. The butts are an unfortunate bit of stylistic collateral damage but in no way premeditated. That last one was as much Alexander's own fault the way he came in, Jesus Christ pose and all. Larry Merchant is DONE. He needs to be fired before losing his last scraps of dignity.
Has there ever, in all of boxing history, been a fight that didn't go "exactly as Manny thought it would ?"
