    Studying psychology doesn't make you better at detecting lies. Deception detection research suggests that the VAST majority of people are no better than chance at detecting lies through nonverbal cues. People can be trained to a minimal degree to detect lies, but the only thing that's held water is paying attention to verbal inconsistencies.

    I'm a Ph.D. candidate in Clincal Forensic Psychology. My wife is a Ph.D. candidate in Social Forensic Psychology and specifically does research in deception detection.
