I was wondering who was gonna be the new hype job of the year, and it seems EB has Brandon Rios in lead, thus far.

I actually like the guy, and he comes to fight, but If this was Fight Night his defense meter would be at 0, this guy blocks punches with his head, and gets away with it because he comes in heavier than his opponents at 135, he we meet the same faith as Kirkland, Williams, and even Margo, all goes who have 0 defense by the way, when he meets guys at 140 who will be just as heavy as him.

Brandon Rios vs Maidana would be the new haglar hearns, and Maidana's Haglar go figure.

    * Sorry I shouldn't of got caught up in the buzz word of the moment (hype job) I can admit my fault in that he's not a hype job just overrated on EB that's all.

Brandons favored by the gods. The lightweight division hasn't seen a beast so fierce since a prime Duran.

I wasn't a fan but he won me over especially with the Acosta fight.

Rios is a beast and would be a big challenge to anyone 140 and below.

No all his fighters are face first brawlers like Donaire and his lil brother Mikey.

Are you kidding me?? If anything Rios looks like he might be for real. He destroyed a tough LW in 3 rounds. The guy is hard to like because he talks so much but as long as he can back it up he is ok with me.

Yeah, he has flaws, but being flawed doesnt necessarily equal hypejob. He may get beat, maybe even hammered as he moves up, but that also doesn't necessarily mean he is a hypejob. Why does everyone love that word so damn much?

PS- Rios is taking on a decent progression of competition. He's still young. Comes to fight. Some of his antics I can do without, but I will definitely be watching his future fights. Who wouldn't want to?

How can you call this guy a hype he's fighting top guys and beating the hell out of them he's not fighting tomato cans, this kis knows how to cut off the ring and wear his man down and the power in both hands plus he throughs his punches stright hes mot wild and does not miss much. Brandon rios is no Hype he is the real deal.

    hype?

acosta was the number 2 ranked lightweight behind marquez, acosta also was the first person to beat and stop antillon who was rated at number 4 at lightweight at the time, also paulus moses who was i think ranked 8.

    meet the same fate

Margarito turned out to be a 3 time, 2 weight world champion. Not a bad career at all (except for the handwrap scandal)

And he almost lost to Acosta, he's fine in this weight class if he moves up he's dead

Rios doesn't exactly fight total scrubs.... Acosta and antillon are top 10 lightweights so no, he's no hype job.

I would argue that Ortiz is an even bigger hype job than what you make rios out to be. The guy quits against maidana, couldn't finish peterson and only got a draw after scoring several kd's, beat another hype job in Berto and now he's fighting Floyd. WTF!! Floyd is 20000 times the boxer Peterson is....so how in the hell he's gonna beat him?

He does remind me of Juan Diaz when he was holding the WBA belt and was undefeated (prior the Campbell fight). Same style, same hunger, same weightclass.
Rios is doing pretty well so far, I think he can still get better and do great things. But he is likely either going to get schooled by a good boxer with a decent footwork or get stopped like Diaz. Ironically, the latter is very likely to happen if he fights Juan Manuel Marquez.
