Just read an article about him on the front page of M a x b o x i n g. He's a middleweight prospect, 10-0 (9), great amateur background, from Sacramento. It's right next to the article about Edwin Rodriguez and an interesting one I also read about college boxing in America. Thoughts?
By the way, are there any other stories like Gonzales in recent times where one guy sparred the champion and challenger at the same time? In the article it said for the Super 6, he sparred Kessler in Sacramento on some days and then he'd drive to Oakland and spar Ward on the others.
gonzales is a monster,i've gotten the chance to see him spar dozens of times out here in sac,he worked at the l.a boxing around the corner from my house and a close friend of mine(a top amateur) was getting solid work with him twice a week for a while and he got dropped a number of times,he said he feels sorry for the guys who gotta face gonzales with no headgear lol.....Gonzales is going to be a top ranked middleweight in the next couple of years you watch!!
Madman, where in Sac are you located? Well according to the article he's with Chico's stepfather Ray Woods and trains in the back of Woods's house. He has a private gym there. Dude's fighting in Reno tomorrow night along with Karim Mayfield, the welter from SF. He's a little more wide open with his punches, but he's got good power too.
south sacramento, ray woods' gym is up north but Gonzales is one guy who goes all over the city and the bay area for sparring,he works with a lot of top amateurs to boost their game not to mention all the pro's i've heard of em sparring......Mayfield's another one of those gym rats who doesn't care who he's in there with,he's real tough but his wide shots leave em open a lot, nonetheless he grinds fighters down!
3 Black Mexican fighters right now Gonzalez, De La Rosa, and Thompson... Interesting to see what Gonzalez is like...
