A lot closer than the cards would suggest. I do think the second point was taken off harshly, but ultimately Fig did the better work and would have won either way.

 

11*-3 Figueroa.

Magsayo actually did good things in this round, showing the other part of what was needed to beat Figueroa; crowd him to prevent inside work and push him back, then pound him with long-range punches. The first part was what he did in the first half of the fight, using the jab at a distance and setting Figueroa up with vicious straights and hooks. The problem is that when Figueroa marched forward, Magsayo didn't crowd and force back, he grabbed and held, resulting in negative activity from him. The worst part is that it wasn't even effective holding; he only grabbed one limb at a time and Fig kept punching. Then the ref (rightfully) took 2 points from him. There's no path to victory here for Magsayo.

 

Magsayo's one dimensional skills really hurt him in this fight. He didn't really know what to do when Figueroa started to take control.
