Bernstein has given Burgos rounds three and six, and has Martínez up 78-74.

For the record, I really like Burgos and would like to give him a round, but I'm having a hard time giving him one, even though they're close.

88-83 Martinez. I think Burgos is gassed, even though he's still punching his heart out, bless him.

I was not expecting this to be such a competitive fight, that's for sure. Burgos showed no respect at all for Martinez's power. He got buzzed a few times but generally seemed to be having fun in there. Martinez has good accuracy and timing, but it's tough for me to come away from this feeling really strongly about him. He's in no way dynamic.

Both men giving it their all still, but the younger fresher guy, was just a little too young and fresh.

    100-90 Martinez

    99-91, 98-92 even 97-93 but that's it.

He's going to lose this fight widely, and rightly so, but how goddamn impressive has Burgos looked in giving a prospect hell, seventeen years into his pro career? For reference, his uncle, former IBF light flyweight champ Victor Burgos was dominated and knocked out into retirement by Vic Darchinyan after 14 years in the ring. Now, granted Xavier Martínez is no Raging Bull. Still, though.

Not a bad showing at all for Burgos, considering this was a short notice fight.

Martinez clearly won, but he got hit far too much for my liking. Not all that impressed.
