Brandon Rios: "I wanna be remembered like Gatti."

    “I WANT TO BE one of those guys where people say ‘you remember Brandon Rios?’ He was a bad-ass fighter, a true warrior. And when my career ends I want to be remembered like (Arturo) Gatti.”

    At the age of 15-years old, Rios was watching Gatti as he outgunned Tracy Patterson to win his first world title at the age of 24. As gladiators of the sport, Gatti and Rios are regarded as ‘throwback’ fighters, men willing to take plenty of shots to land that one decisive punch.

    In February of this year, two months short of his 25th birthday, Rios was laying similar tactics as he continually stalked and preyed on WBA lightweight champion Miguel Acosta in his first world title attempt at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas. From the early stages of the contest, the champion boxed on the back foot attempting to fend off the relentlessness of his challenger. Despite Acosta controlling the first half of the fight Rios grew stronger and broke the champion’s will. The fight came to a conclusion in the tenth round, Rios had put his man down twice, he had absorbed all the Venezuelan could muster and shrieked in delight at becoming a major player in the 135lb division.
