Having lost to an unknown Floyd copycat, Richard Abril, Rios has disgraced himself as a plodding average fighter who cannot hold candle with the elite fighters in the junior welterweight /welterweight. Even Gamboa can make a mincemeat of this guy who goes forward without defense.

Rios lopsidedly lost the last fight. This is shameful robbery in boxing history.

Robert Garcia is also vastly overrated as a trainer. Rios has came in overweight twice in a row and hasn't improved at all since the Peterson fight. In fact I believe he is declining every fight since. His gameplans for Margarito against pacquiao and Cotto were also lousy. Lets not forget that donaire looked very ordinary against a c+ level fighter in Vasquez Jr. The guy is just a media hypejob because he has decent interview speaking skills.

He just beats up smaller fighters.

He will get destroyed at 140.

    Khan would probaly TKO him
Peterson would KO (avenge his bro's loss)
    Maidana would kill him

Yes. His main strategy is to have his fighter much bigger than the opponent, come fight time.

Yep, agreed. He may, at times, be value for money but in terms of talent I'm not sold on him. Gamboa missed a great opportunity here.

He had a good amount of hype, but Rios is still above average. Top 5 in your weight class is far from average.

Brandon Rios is the "new" Ricardo Mayorga. He is nothing but a big-ass clown, his antics makes for a good press conference and it will be a matter of time before he's in the ring smoking a black n' mild. A Staright Clown with NO SKILL = Ricardo Mayorga.

That's hyperbole. Rios has (normally at least) tight punching form, a great ability to roll with punches, the ability to impose his will on a fighter as a fight progresses, and a decent jab. I doubt he's the next ATG superstar in boxing, but people are going overboard after this last fight.

haven't given up on rios next....everybody is still entitled to a bad showing once in a while.

he just needs to stop killing himself to make the weight, a tune-up at 140, then start mowing them down starting with the weakest beltholder at 140.

I think he's still more similar to margo. He should best avoid pure boxers with a good chin cause he will look bad and stupid. He could still do well with boxer/punchers. I can't believe some people believe this guy would put a beatdown on marquez. Current pac will counter his ass to death and absolutely destroy his career ala tony
