No, it's not. Fighters need to stay active and waiting for an HBO/Showtime date isn't a good thing for boxing or fighters. That is the exact reason why fighters fight only twice year. Promoters like Lou Dibella, Gary Shaw and Golden Boy to a certain extent need to not cater to the T.V. networks bull**** and actually promote. The thing about Top Rank is that they're actually willing to spend their own money to do their job, which is promoting their fighter and keeping them active.
Rios is what he is....a poor mans Vargas....dude is actually underated as far as subtle skills but I agree he faces a pure boxer and gets his ears boxed off, Gamboa likely would have done this....JMM would massacre him but that don't mean Rios isn't great for the sport and one of the most exciting fighters on earth. Rios a G and he embodies the fighters spirit but dude is def gonna have a short prime so he better make the most of it and fight some live bodies soon (not his fault with the gamboa sitch obviously but he needs to step it up next fight like he was planning to do vs Gamboa instead of fighting these no hopers like Murray/Abril/Antillon.) Also the longer he keeps killing himself to make lightweight the shorter his careeer will be and the lower his chances of success when he moves up in weight. Every fight at LW for Rios is a little risky from here on as he could be drained and lose his physical advantages.....he looked bad vs Murray and I'd argue that Abril is slightly better than Murray technically so this is by no means a sure thing due the weihgt. If Rios makes weight comfortably he destroys Abril but I can't see him making 135 comfortably anymore so him having troubles vs Abril is a definite possibility.
What's funny is that his original fight with Gamboa was close to a sell out and was being renovated for more seating renevations. Rios is becoming a legitimate draw, get your head out of your ass.
he is a guy drained down one or two weight classes below where he should be then on fight night he balloons and uses his size and weight advantage to outslug smaller guys who are usually just average boxers who dont move much movement and stand in front of him. The moment this guy fights someone his own size with power or who has skill and movement he is ****ed.
Who the **** is overrating him? Yes he would lose to some good fighters like JMM or Pac-Man, but there isn't that many that would beat the **** out of him at this point (147 and below).
Gamboa sure ran from Rios! Rios is exciting fighter to watch. El Pollo was a huge disappointment..........
Nah, overrated are guys like Devon Alexander who was paid 1+ million by HBO for quitting against Bradley and Berto who received 1.25 million for facing Freddy Hernandez.
Maidana who struggled against a shot one eyed Morales? the same Maidana who struggled against a shot Chop Chop Corley??? Rios is a far better pressure fighter, and flat out much more skilled fighter then Maidana....The same Maidana who would had have Khan out of there if it wasn't for Not so fair but Firm Cortez....Rios ****s up both Con and Maidana. :deal
As far as im concern, Marquez became a 4 weight division champ last November. **** what a bunch of bought ****head judges say. :good
You want to talk about someone who gets talked about him being a future star? Try Adrien Broner, who has fought nothing but CANS, got a bull**** paper title against some bum, and got a gift decision against the best fighter he has fought so far, and that fighter is a ****in' FEatherweight. how come i dont see you make threads about broner?
Except he's as american as the guy in your AV. at least Rios isn't getting KO'ed by featherfisted jap bums. :yep
