Yeah, that's a sad reality. Those small weight divisions were never appealing to a casual boxing fan.

HBO busy paying Berto 1.4 million to knock out Freddy Hernandez when they should have been making dope fights at the lower weights a decade ago without having to market some once-every-six-months "Superfly" card. Why even market it that way? They could put on the best fights between top 5 ranked guys in the divisions every time out for a fraction of the payday they give to guys who only got their because of their promoter and managerial connections. And everybody would be cool with it because they would see the action and overall quality of fights is definitely better on the whole at the lower weights anyways.

Trouble is many of the little guys come from countries where the fighters have no local following and don’t buy PPV.

Not saying they deserve a Million dollar pay days

But paying a dude like Cuadras 25k?

    Estrada 100k? Thats weak

    They sold 8,000 tickets

    Not like it bombed

You can pay the main event guys 500k at least...

    HBO being cheap

I like Rios, but it's sad that truely dedicated elite boxers are making less then him, who hasn't won a legit bout in years and is half ass dedicated

    To be fair...

Brandon Rios is a high profile fighter. And he's gone up against other high profile fighters (Pacquiao, Bradley, Garcia).

    BS, doe.

Rungvisai and Estrada both deserve million dollar pay days.

Not even casual.............I'm a die hard boxing fan and it has no
    appeal to me.

The small, small weight classes appeal only to a very small
specific type of fan. It's just not for everyone, I respect the
hell out of the little guys, but I'd rather watch C level WWs
or MWs than elite 115 pounders.......sorry *shrugs*

Man in my life I learned that I am worth what somebody will pay me. That is the sad reality of how life works. If Cuadras wants more than 25K he should find somebody who will pay him a larger purse. I'm not saying that to discredit him by the way. But it seems the demand is not there for guys in the very low weight classes.

We've been on the same page on other threads on this, no sense not joining in now lol.

HBO's boxing downfall is their own doing because of crappy budget allocation. That's the only reason lower weight guys and foreigners withough great connections got a break in the first place- they had dates to fill, and alot of cash got burned on bad fights, so the only option was to take guys who'd fight for cheap.

They should've been tapping this market long ago and paid more fairly. They could've still saved money in the long run and put on more fan friendly fights in the process.

They should've signed with Al Haymon.

People complain his fighters don't fight that often. But they don't have to.

On the other hand, if you only make $25,000, by the time you pay your team and taxes, you have to fight again right away to keep money coming in.
