First trip to Vegas this weekend and i'm still undecided on who i'm betting on Was all set to bet on Acosta but the odds released have swayed me slightly. Not much footage available on Acosta but he looks extremely slick, literally never stops moving. I'm more than impressed Rios, on the other hand, looks quite basic as moves fwd trying to impose himself. Apparently can weigh up to 150 pounds come fight night. So, who you got for this one? :think
I really like Miguel Acosta in this. This will be a FOTY candidate. Both our very agrresive, love to come forward but Acosta just seems to me a more intelligent fighter. He is able to use his jab which is more of a range finder but still a good punch, will use his brain and be patient and will warm his way into the fight. Rios has no jab and he will take punches to get his landing. Acosta is the more powerful puncher so unless Rios has drasticly changed his style he won't win this fight. Look at Acostas record he beat two unfefeated fighters in the last year as the away fighter. Urbano Antillon in Mexica and Paulus Moses in Africa to pick up the WBA regular title. In both fight he was in complete control for every round. He also had a tune up at the end of 2010 as his opponent for the title pulled out late notice. Both Antillon and Moses are very good fighters who are both still ranked top 10 with the Ring and my personal rankings posted below. Lightweight (135lbs) This content is protected 1. Miguel Acosta 2. Humberto Soto (WBC) 3. Michael Katsidis 4. Miguel Vasquez (IBF) 5. Robert Guerrero 6. Juan Diaz 7. Brandon Rios 8. Urbano Antillon 9. Jorge Linares 10. Paulus Moses 11. Leonardo Zappavigna 12. John Murray 13. John Molina 14. Antonio DeMarco 15. David Diaz Acosta is a big strong, fit guy with a great jab and hard right hand and I just can't see Brandon Rios being able to do what he likes to do without getting busted up which is to get on the inside and up close, work the uppercut and bash the body. I have heard Brandon Rios took on a strentgh and conditioning coach at the beginning of his camp but only lasted 1 day. Has he made a sacrifices needed to beat Acosta, I don't think so. You can't walk in straight agaisnt a guy like Acosta without a jab and not get beat up. Its gonna be a back and forth physical bout. I see Rios having some success with the right hand but I only see one winner and thats Miguel Acosta by 4 rounds, judges may have it closer.
Saw the Acosta - Antillon highlights on YT yesterday and it's swayed me to pick him - a good counterpuncher with power, chin and stamina should wipe out a come forward fighter like Rios... on paper at least!
I'd be interested in seeing any footage of Acosta - Moses if anyone has any as well, from what I've read he was a lot more aggressive in that fight
Top Rank like to keep it in house. Acosta, Soto, Rios, Antillon, Vasquez, DeMarco all fight for them, and its rumoured Marquez will sign with them for a Pacquiao fight in November which is is likley to lose. How about the winner of Acosta and Rios fights Vasquez should he win agaisnt Zappavigna in July. Then have the winner of Soto vs Antillion fight there mandatory DeMarco vs Sanchez winner in early September. Winner of Acosta/Rios/Vasquez gets there mandatory out of the way on the undercard. Winners meet in December for the WBA, WBC and IBF titles and then fights Marquez in early 2011 for the lineal title.
Did anyone see the Acosta fight with Adjaho? Know he got put down in the 9th and 12th rounds, wandering if he was hurt or if they were just flash kd's???
Lots of fights that could be made there that I would want to see! Lightweight (135lbs) World Champion: Juan Manuel Marquez (WBA & WBO) - Beat Michael Katsidis November 2010 1. Miguel Acosta 2. Humberto Soto (WBC) 3. Michael Katsidis 4. Miguel Vasquez (IBF) 5. Robert Guerrero 6. Juan Diaz 7. Brandon Rios 8. Urbano Antillon 9. Jorge Linares 10. Paulus Moses 11. Leonardo Zappavigna 12. John Murray 13. John Molina 14. Antonio DeMarco 15. David Diaz
