Maybe if Alvarado builds himself back up with some good wins we can get a rematch, but right now I don't really see a reason to have now. Alvarado was out on his feet, and I was rooting for him.

But if a Rematch were to happen, I give the edge to Rios. We don't know how this first loss to Alvarado would affect him.

Rios looked like normal rios....maybe that is really bad....but he's punches are brutal......anyways I will concede that Alvarado was doing well and winning the fight. Rios won the first round. I think the third was close. But Brandon lost rounds 4 and 5 clearly and was losing the 6th pretty clearly until he rocked Alvarado at the end of the round. So ya boxing wise I think you can make a point that Rios could be out pointed the next time these guys fight. However, my counter point to that would be that you should notice that Rios didn't throw that over hand right with any power until the 6 round. Rios said after the fight that that was the punch they had been practicing and that he knew he was open for that shot. My guess is that the fight basically went exactly the way the Rios camp planned on it going and because that is the case even though Alvarado was winning the boxing match the fact that they Rios team had alvarado so figured out mean that despite what we saw in reality he was a lot further from winning this fight then it seemed.

Good post. I agree. If Alvrado had used more of a Acosta technique he could have won. He needed to use his legs more but his bravado got the best of him and he looked like he wanted to show Rios he was not giong to be pushed around. Big mistake with his face. He has skin almost as bad as Linares.

If Alvarado accepts he needs to be a mover in the fight then he wins this. I saw Alvarado hurt Rios when on the outside.

Rios will be a star if he gets matched properly. Maidana, Ajose, Soto and possibly Garcia.

He wasn't really out on his feet IMO, and he seemed to be edging every minute close but clear until Rios caught him with that first chopping right that set up the rest of the sequence (which had Alvarado reeling to be sure, but from which he did seem to be bouncing back)

 same thing i was thinking, but I saw a non Latino go to Puerto Rico and fight for that title. He lost, but still he was an African American with no Latino roots fighting a Boricua for that Latino title.

Rios gets him again. Rios needs to get his stamina up, he was slowing down big time. he still look a bit too drained tonight.

Rios on points, which is what was going to happen tonight, if Brandon hadn't caught Mike with that massive right hand. Excited as hell for the KO, but it ruined my bet on the over :!:

Many non-Latinos have fought for the WBO's silly "Latino" belts over the years. :conf

It's just a bunch of nonsense, an excuse to have more pieces of tin floating around and collect more fees and have more boxers feel special by virtue of being able to call themselves a "champion" without (in some cases) ever needing to step up beyond regional level.

Most orgs have a version. WBC has "Fecombox" and "Fecarbox", for instance.

Wilting from Rios' well placed punches but homeboy got one of the best gas tanks in the game today. Rios' energy level was a concern for me. I know he took a lot of punches but he look sickly.

Rios and Maidana both coached by Robert Garcia now. I'd love to see that fight happen too, but probably never going to happen :-(

I say he was out on his feet because he wasn't holding his same defensive posture he was demonstrating thought the fight. His chin was exposed and hands were low, he was looking at taking more clean shots. Maybe after seeing some replays, one can convince themselves otherwise, but put yourself in the refs position were you have make a decision right then and there.

I suspect that the second go around would be a 12 rounder and I don't think Alvarado can withstand Rios' onslaughts over the course of 12 rounds.

    Rios TKO
