IKR, Yeah if they going to do it again i will watch it too but those epic fights keep taking crowd pleaser fighters away too damn quick. I was a big fan of Barrera, Corrales, Castillo, Issy Vazquez. After those wars their career is over.

To underline your comment, IB, Alvarado was hurt worse against Breidis Prescott 'n came back to knock him out. I'd still pick Alvarado to beat Rios in a re-match

I.B. is an ESB icon. His RBR threads are legendary, and the dude is a hardcore boxing fan. He's like my brother from another mother. BUT, the mother****er needs to get glasses, and stop drinking!

3 rounds each going into the 7th, and Alvarado was OUT. If Rios hadn't been in the way, Alvarado would have went down ON HIS FACE!! When was the last time we saw a fighter go down on his face and get back up?

I was rooting for Rios, but until the tail-end of the 6th I thought Bam Bam was gonna get sparked. Dude may be a little small at 140, but his chin can definitely handle it.

I'd love to see a rematch somewhere down the road. Could turn into a great rivalry.

Rios breaks him down again. Rios won rounds 1, 3, and 6 on my card before the stoppage. Alvarado is a pretty big guy at 140, and appeared bigger and stronger than Rios, but Rios simply ate all of his best shots inside, where Alvarado was actually able to land heavy punches.

Alvarado might have been able to stick jabs and straight rights at a distance, but Rios' guard was picking off a lot of those. He wasn't getting hurt from the outside. And Alvarado's movement and boxing skills are decent at best; they're not enough to keep Rios off and away from him for even large chunks of every round, and Alvarado's defense inside isn't good enough to negate Rios either. Rios probably gets bigger and stronger for his future fights at 140 as well. Alvarado may not even have the size/strength advantage the next time they fight, so Rios might conceivably be able to close the distance and boss him inside even more decisively in a future confrontation.

And the stoppage was fine, too. Alvarado was out on his feet, not punching back with his hands down. Rios was smashing him with huge flush haymakers by that point. The referee did Alvarado by sparing him from getting hit by 6-7 more big shots.

Most likely Rios by stoppage... but I do think that the ref stopped it too soon. Mike was not done yet.. Mike has alot of will! I really wish Steve Smoger would of been the ref for this fight!

The slo-mo convinced me the stoppage was okay. Smoger probably would have let it go for another few seconds, but I do not think it would have changed the outcome. Alvarado was hurt near the end of the 6th, and did not recover.

Rios hurt Mike really bad.. Beautiful over hand rights! I think the fight should of went a little longer due to Mike being a tough *******.. Mike deserved more time because he was still trying to block and he didn't look defenseless.. I think Rios would of KO'd him anyways.. Oh well! :hat

I know Bam Bam Rios is the truth. But Mike Alvarado looked like he was on his way to a late stoppage win, if he had paced himself better in that 4th (or was it 5th) round. He was beginning to DOMINATE and those shots he was landing were cringeworthy. He just made a lot of tactical misjudgments that Rios was able to capitalize on.

Rios won that fight on pure heart, will, and toughness. I don't think it was a bad stoppage the way some people do. That fight was over. But.... it was so close to going the other way in my opinion. After that post-fight interview with Kellerman, I'm not really sure if Alvarado himself even believes he can get it done in a rematch. Sometimes the mental game is crucial enough to keep a guy from fixing the things he did wrong the first time around.

Agreed. That post-fight interview told a story on its own. To me, Alvarado showed he has the ability, but he gambled on going for a bit too much, and earlier than he should have. He could have been more patient in dishing out his punishment. In the end, I really think he gassed. And gassing takes the venom out of your shots, makes you more prone to dropping those hands, and even losing punch resistance in there. The LAST person you want to gas out against is a relentless pressure fighter with a granite chin... like Rios is. Keeping a guy like that off has proved to be tough.

Alvarado should have tried to clinch a bit sooner in that final sequence. But he was spent. The question now is, is he mentally broken. A loss like this one could change his career. Will be good to see how he comes back from it. Didn't seem like he wanted no more of Rios when he spoke to Max.

    Not sure.

I just hope Rios does what we've all been waiting for and unifies this belt with other ethnicity based belts. African-American, White-European and Oriental belts are his for the taking.

I get the feeling you had some interest in Alvarado? Maybe a wager..

I do agree with you though, premature stoppage in a fight where it was Alvarado's to lose at that point..

I mean, I picked him in both ESB prediction leagues and dropped a little vCash on him, but that's got naught to do with my stance here. :conf

I also thought Nishioka could spring the upset based on his recent form (against Rafa) and Donaire's (against Mathebula) and took a little vPunt on him. You don't see me moaning about the Nishioka stoppage or claiming he won a round, do you?

Whether I have any "interest" in someone has no bearing on my view of how a competition plays out remaining objective.

Don't see it going any different. Rios knows Alvarado can't dent him and Rios can hurt him, badly. Another KO win for Rios. And I can't stand him tbh

I guess it's easy for us and his corner to tell Alvarado just to jab and move away from Rios when Bam Bam keeps on coming on so strong. But that's what Alvarado can and should do besides snap that jab and bring it back QUICK to avoid the counter right. If he could keep up the jab and move strategy it would be a lot less painful for Mike.

BTW I don't think it was a quick stoppage. Alvarado was either on or around the corner from ***** street. He should have taken a knee and got some time to recover.
