Anybody that thinks a rematch would be any different is ******ED! Alvarado was on his way to being KO'd, early stoppage or not.

Rios had actually hurt him near the end of the 6th, so the writing was on the wall.

The fight went actually as I predicted. Back and forth war, but Rios' bigger guns and better offensive arsenal were too much.

How is Alvarado gonna do any better in a rematch? The guy only knows one way to fight. He's not gonna develop a defense at 31 yrs old after 30+ fights.

Too many posters on here are brain dead.

Again, for me, it's about "window of opportunity". Had he stopped it while Rios was chopping him with rights and knocking him back across the ring and against the ropes about ten seconds earlier, it would have been a perfectly legit stoppage. The fact that Alvarado was lifting his arms, seeming to shake the cobwebs a little and looking to clinch, tells me that he was ready to at least make an attempt to get back into the fight. At that exact moment that Russell waved it off, the same punishment wasn't being shipped as had been a brief time earlier.

If it started back up, as violent as it was, then most definitely stop it. Give the dude a chance, though - at that particular moment, where he looked to maybe be poised to ride out the round and then recharge on his stool (and who knows how much that prolonged attack would have taken out of Rios himself...)

...and it isn't like mine is the lone voice in the wilderness, here. Others who watched live and on replay have echoed these same thoughts.
