This is where either your bias towards parker shows...or your lack of boxing knowledge.

Takam was preparing for Joshua for 8 weeks.
Joshua was preparing for Pulev for 6 1/2 weeks and then Takam for just 12 days.

Joshua was pretty flat throughout, but dealt with Takam way easier than Povetkin or Parker did.

I think he can improve in a few areas, from easiest to hardest:

    1) He ought to lose a little weight, at the moment he's scared to throw too much for fear of gassing. Also it might help his foot speed which is not exceptional.

    2) Defense. He was clearly uncomfortable with Takam's style, he did not like those fast, short overhand punches. He did a far better job of making the bigger Wlad miss, than vs Takam.

    3) His offense showed some flaws today as well, both in terms of accuracy (less target area with a smaller guy) and predictability.

    4) I think when pressuring his opponent Joshua sometimes gets too square. He's a big guy and needs to learn to use distance better against smaller opponents.

I don't think I was harsh on Joshua ... look at the rest of the forum lol.

    All I said is that:
    a) Parker would be competitive (no-brainer, after all Takam was competitive)
    b) Joshua was overrated by those who said that anyone less than 6'4 or so had no chance (another no-brainer)
    c) Joshua is the best HW today. Surely you'd agree?

And yes, Takam did have a full camp but it's hard to believe he would've been prepping 100% intensity with good sparring partners etc. before getting the call.

It just showed that Joshua is still green. He still only has 20 pro fights. I still think Joshua is too green for Wilder at the moment, but if he can keep getting fights that challenge him I'd say at about 25-26 fights he should be ready, which is why both Joshua and Hearn want the fight in 2019 or later.

British ref Ian John Lewis let Vitaly Klitschko beat Shannon Briggs into intensive care and would not stop the fight while some other British cuck ref gives Joshua a TKO for missing punches.

If Vitali was a Brit, Ian John Lewis would've stopped the fight in the 2nd or 3rd round. Briggs was taking punishment by then.

I'm not sure 'competitive' is the word you're looking for.

11-0 / 10-1 is not 'competitive'. You could argue the fight was more 'competitive' than expected.....but it was still completely one sided.

Takam has had 8 weeks preparing for Joshua.
Joshua has had 12 days preparing for Takam.

To be fair to Joshua he’s the first one to say he’s got loads to learn and everyone around says the same.

The bloke who really needs to look at himself is Joshua’s conditioner!
Joshua is a natural 6’6” monster he doesn’t need a conditioning programme designed to increase his weight and lean muscle mass. In fact he needs entirely the opposite, he should be concentrating on endurance and aerobic fitness.

For me "competitive" is not the same as "close". I don't think it was a close fight. "Competitive" simply means that it was an interesting / quality fight and not a beatdown, and neither fighter was out of their depth. It was an interesting fight, it was fun, and I enjoyed it. That's the usual meaning of the term on here anyway.

Your point that Joshua also took Takam on late notice is fair, no complaints. But Takam did not have an optimal preparation either though, no way he pays the big bucks to get top sparring partners in for a fight where he is only the back-up.

Thanks, you deserve a shout-out btw for being one of the people who predicted Takam to give Joshua a good fight.

This. Way too early to say he can't improve.

You're just guessing that Takam's camp wasn't ideal.

The only facts we know are the following.....

Takam was told over 8 weeks ago (IIRC Hearn actually said he had given him 12 weeks notice) that he would be a back-up to Pulev.

Joshua was told 12 days ago that his preparation for the previous 6 1/2

Takam 'may' have been under prepared, if so, that's his own fault.
Joshua 'was' under prepared for Takam.
