What would have happened if Mike Tyson and Riddick Bowe had fought each other anytime between 1992-1996?

Tyson was in prison from 1992 to 1996.

Bowe seemed to have a lot of attributes to beat Tyson. Good size and handspeed, solid power, stamina, workrate, terrific in-fighting skills, great uppercut.

However, there are some things that just make it hard for me to make Bowe the favorite here.

    • Bowe's defense. Bowe's defense was poor, and he would rather brawl than clinch (which Douglas, Holyfield, and Lewis all used well versus Tyson, who was prone to laziness in the clinch).
    • Bowe's unproven track record against big punchers. Bowe seemed to have a good chin, but it's not like he faced a lot of big punchers. Lewis was avoided. Bowe was hurt everytime he was tagged cleanly by Hide (big puncher). Golota was a pretty good puncher, and he hurt Bowe repeatedly.

Tyson was in prison during this time so that is hard to gauge. By the time he got out, Bowe was a shell of himself. If this was a prime for prime Match-up I have to go with Tyson. Bowe had certain skills that would trouble Tyson, good jab, great uppercut, and very good infighter for his height and build.

He did tend to brawl, didnt move around very much, and his defense left some to be desired on the elite level, these are the reason why he'd lose to Tyson. Tyson had trouble with fighters that gave him angles, counterpunched and jabbed him. Bowe would be surprised by Tysons speed and Bowe didnt fight many huge punchers. Holyfield had him hurt several times and even dropped him in the 3rd fight, so I could see Tyson scoring a kd.

Very had match-up to make a pick in but I go for Tyson. Bowe is too stationary and too easy to hit to beat a prime Tyson, although it will be a war until the end.
