:rofl Your post is exactly what I expected. You cant beat adding Greb to a thread like this as bait. I once had a poster tell me Greb was made up by white people to compete with Robinson as thee ATG

The Greb sparring footage is just a complete farce spar for the press of those times. Back in those day's fighters would joke spar or re-enact fights for the press. Sometimes actors would re-enact fights for them and this would be broadcast. This is fact. The Greb sparing footage is actually Greb but that is in no way how he really fought. Don't be such a re**** :patsch

Hey don't diss Fighting Harada, Jeff Fenech, Jung Koo Chang, and Myung Woo Yuh!
Those guys were ATG swarmer/pressure fighters. They weren't punchers but also no powder punchers.

That might be true. Maybe he was an actual bum who had the mob and KKK behind him, fixing fights for him in order to create this mythical white fighter, it's just incredibly shady that there's absolutely no footage of a fighter so amazing that should have been considered the 8th wonder of the world back then. It makes no sense at all.

The mob probably made sure no footage of his actual fights ever got recorded because then all people would see all of Greb's decent opponents taking dives a la Malik Scott and shi.et. People like Gene Tunney were probably forced to throw the fight at gun point.

and yeah, his punching form in training still looks like ****

A good pressure fighter can annul his opponent even if he has not power, because he takes away the Space a pure boxer needs to operate - kind of like when Bradley fought Alexander a few years back. Ugly style, but it works.

Actually, very few fights were recorded or shown on TV, but there is plenty of other evidence of Greb's fights - newspaper reports, eyewitness accounts, photos, fight ledgers etc. etc. He died in 1926 so it really isn't strange that there is so little footage.

I agree its a bit dodgy not having footage but his record speaks for itself and he was lauded as an absolute windmill by his fellow pro's. The fact he was mentioned by fellow pro's means he existed.
He actually has a better record the Robinson H2H Robinson beats him though.

Greb is the only man to defeat one of boxing history's greatest and craftiest fighters, Gene Tunney. Tunney was like the white Ali and doing things Ali was doing before Ali! And they fought 5 times. It wasn't until the smaller, older Greb was finally outclassed in their last fight Tunney was finally able to beat him clearly. That says alot about Greb's greatness. A middleweight great giving a future light heavyweight AND heavyweight great a thrashing that's unheard of. It's like if Hagler went on to fight and beat Michael Spinks, arguably beat him 3 out of 5 times, but clearly lost to the younger, bigger fighter in their final fight. You can't ask for more than that.

The irony is you're describing the greatest fighter of all-time: Harry Greb.
