Brawls with the less durable softer hitting fighter prevailing?

Not too many I would guess. Greb didn't hit particularly hard but he was as durable as they come. Almost always a successful brawler has to have one of those two qualities to prevail. Either that or fantastic defence.

 

You could make a case for Tiberi vs Toney I guess. Pity we never saw more of Tiberi, he could have turned out pretty good.

 

Fenech vs Villasana. Fenech was no slouch in either area, but Villasana was a murderous puncher with arguably the greatest ever chin at featherweight. Fenech hit him with so much he broke both of his hands, and he didn't stop throwing. He thoroughly out-worked Villasana in a great fight, but Marcos definitely had a better chin, and was a harder puncher IMO.

 

Good call, as for Villasana,s chin, prob in the top 5 at any weight, along side La Motta, Chuvalo, Greb, and SRR not always thought of in this category unjustly . keep well.

 

Tommy Loughran vs Leo Lomski.

 

I'm not convinced Lomski was more durable than Loughran. I'm also not convinced that that was a brawl. It sounds like after Lomski had a massive first round, he had isolated spots of success with the left to the body due to an injury in his right hand. It sounds like Loughran was the ring general and took over quite clearly.

 

Vito Antuofermo W10 Bennie Brisco and SD15 Hugo Corro.

Vito was physically durable but his scar tissue wasn’t, so I guess that would make him less durable than either of the above. Although Corro wasn’t a big puncher, he was probably a bigger puncher than Vito.

Joey Giardello against everyone. Joey didn't have much of a punch but was a very skilled technician that would brawl when he had to. He was a guy that more times than not found a way to win.

 

Maybe so, but he was also tough as nails.

 

This is tough one ...because there’s only 3 ways you can win a brawl ...by having more power...or a better chin ....or a higher workrate
