About as much as you get pleasure from seeing someone fail. Who the **** is happy or hopes to see others not succeed. Thats as sad as gets.

Sky offered a REDUCED deal. That’s the point. They review the commercial relationship based on performance and views. The reduced offer was so derisory that it was by all means a case of Sky ditching Scottish football.

That’s skirting the issue anyway. I don’t intend to split hairs on an unrelated subject. I merely cited that as an example of what will happen if Matchroom cards don’t attract big viewing figures.

This is a risky move. DAZN are committing huge sums of money in the hope they get enough subscribers to turn a profit. They are rolling the dice no doubt.

Boxnation (a similar model on a much smaller scale) was losing millions and on the verge of bankruptcy before the BT deal came along and bailed them out.

This is a great deal for Canelo, but it seems like a huge amount to commit to one man when there aren't many big fights out there for him. So I guess that means he's being paid $33m to fight Rocky Fielding. I wonder what Rocky's getting? :D

All the American crybabies who were desperate for DAZN to fail will all now be subscribing and claim any fight they like on there had anything to do with Eddie Hearn or their superior British counterparts.

The one difference is DAZN is owned by the Perform Group which is owned by a Billionaire worth $20 billion.

Also DAZN are not new to this game. They have streaming networks in other parts of the world so have experience. A former ESPN exec in John Skipper helps as well as being a sports streaming platform not a boxing platform.

Also we need to see the devil in the detail. $33 mil per fight is likely not a guarantee. There will be benchmarks to hit on subscription rates.

I don’t derive pleasure from other people’s failures.

Unlike a lot of the Hearn bum squad here I actually buy tickets to his shows. I also splashed out for both Haye-Bellew PPVs and Joshua v Parker. Yet somehow I have a deep hatred for Hearn.

Dude your default response to this deal was how it must negatively effect Eddie Hearn and Matchroom.

"Owned by a billionaire worth $20bn". So what? Do you seriously think these people put their own money into these businesses? Look at the Premier League. All the big teams have the backing of billionaires yet sit on mountains of debt. They don't just write a cheque out every time they want to buy a player. They borrow money in the hope that they make it back later. It's called an investment. The same as the Canelo deal is an investment that will need to pay for itself and return a profit.

The devil may be in the detail, but the report suggests this is indeed a guaranteed sum and a minimum amount. That would require 550,000 subscribers just to break even.

Like I said, it's a risky move, regardless of who's behind it.

Of course but surely you see the difference in DAZN being owned by the Perform Group and Box nation which looked like it was set up by someone in a bedroom.

I would suspect DAZN expect to lose money initially in the USA as they move into the market and build a subscription base just they wont be in a position where they cant keep the lights on.

Yes, which is why I made the comment about scale.

All I'm saying is it's easy to be impressed by these big numbers being thrown around, but ultimately for the business to work they need to make a profit. As a boxing fan I hope it succeeds, but success is far from guaranteed.

No doubt and it will still need to get rights for other major sports to really make a splash.

It's not that easy. As far as I know, for example, Netflix is not profitable yet (at least it wasn't a not so long time ago) because tons of money have been poured into it to grow it bigger. It all depends on the investment horizons. Sometimes (many times) the owners are willing to reinvest and endure years of unprofitability for a bigger jackpot in the end.
