I think it's pretty clear the fight is going to happen.

I think it's also pretty clear Ruiz is going to get what he wants.

I'd much rather see Ruiz against Wilder anyways tbh, but if Ruiz is going to fight someone he's easily beaten he certainly has every right to try and get as much money as he can.

Usually I don't care about financial splits, but I think the champion should definitely be getting more than 10% of the purse.

And if this children get the debt expunged or they get even more than 8 million for one night's work then I'd suggest they've done the right thing.

Remember Rahman going to court trying to get out of the Lewis rematch.

Hearn better sweeten the Pot for Ruiz with at least a Lifetime Supply of Snickers Bars to convince him to sign the contract!!

and that's a Lifetime Supply for him and his Wives and future 280 Children and Grandchildren!!

You can't blame Ruiz he is ducking a rematch that he agreed to? I for one would love to see the fight. If Ruiz ducks the rematch he will likely be held up in court for months or years; I for one would rather see him fight in the ring I hope he won't go down that route.

Most people here seem too young or forgetful to remember that. Don King brought Rahman a "suitcase full of cash" to convince him to sign with him and retract his agreement to rematch Lewis.

If it's an 'immediate rematch' clause, which seems like the case, how would Joshua be able to fight during these years of legal battles? If he did, would he not be waiving his right to an immediate rematch? Also, Matchroom Boxing Ltd doesn't really have the finances to fund a long and costly legal battle. And they can't assume costs would be awarded against Ruiz, should they win.

And why would Ruiz duck a man he totally dismantled? This is merely one management team trying to get a better deal for their client. They are doing their job....

Trying to get a better deal ok, but if they can't get a deal that's better as the original contract, they can't pull out. A deal is a deal.

Yeah but that deal can only be forced through in court, if one party wants to break it. That's the thing with contracts, all they really represent are the terms of engagement in a courtroom. And I don't think Matchroom have the desire or finances to go down that route.

If the overall picture of the rematch had not changed, I would agree with you. But according to reports, the purse for the proposed Saudi fight is so much more than would have been expected for a Cardiff or MSG bout, and it seems Ruiz' team think they are entitled to more. Or at least they feel they have leverage to push for more. It would be remiss of his managers not to try to garner the best deal possible, and of course they financially benefit too.

They absolutely can pull out and test Matchroom's resolve and desire to instigate a lengthy legal battle.

That's what I don't understand. Ruiz Jr. completely annihilated AJ, walked through him and practically decapitated him. Now he has the chance to do it again, collect an easy $9 million in the process and then sit and wait to collect $50 million vs. the winner of Fury/Wilder.

What is Ruiz waiting for? Why not go for it?

Boxing is his job. He might get badly hurt in the rematch and not be able to fight again. He might get KO'd and beaten up by a rejuvenated AJ and never be a player in the division again. As much as this is a macho sport where alphas clash horns it's also an arena for business. The proposed purse is much larger than what was expected at the time the contract was signed and Ruiz' team think they can get their man - and themselves - more money.

All this sucks from a fan's POV but from a management perspective they would not be doing their jobs if they didn't try to get a better deal. Maybe Hearn can call their bluff and get legal proceedings underway. But as of now, it seems he isn't inclined to do so. Legally, he's on solid ground it would seem but practically-speaking it's another matter. Matchroom Boxing Ltd's profits from their last accounting year was just over £4m and their cash reserves aren't huge. So do they really want to be distracted by a costly court case?

This big-money fight doesn't happen without Ruiz and the belts, and everyone - including AJ and Matchroom loses out if it doesn't. It business.

Guys ..whats the general view of the potential rematch being based in Saudi ??

Is this not a prime opportunity for a 'rumble in the jungle' a 'thriller in Manilla' type event of epic proportions ..
An event that would solidify both fighters in the memory of the casual fan as well as the hardcore , an event like the old days , lil street kids climbing lamp posts to see , people on roof tops , kids following the cars as they arrive chanting names , fighters meeting the people , walking thro, villages etc ..
Bring the sport out the clouds and back to the very people that idolise you ..
