Hand speed is meaningless if you can't reach your opponent, 8 inches in reach is a lot to give up and I don't think Ruiz Jr has particularly good footwork, everyone he's faced so far pretty much stood right in front of him, even Parker when he moved he kept Ruiz at range it was when Parker stopped moving and threw that Ruiz was able to land with counters.

Where Andy is effective is when an opponent throws and he can fire back. Problem with the height and reach Joshua has he can get off and have Ruiz hitting air.

It's not a bad fight considering it's a late replacement. Virtually everyone else ran a mile from a multi-million $ payday and a shot at glory. At least Ruiz had the balls to step up.

Ruiz can obviously go 12 rounds, but his punches lose their snap as a fight goes on, I think he's only had 2 stoppages after 4 rounds I think. He actually hits harder than his KO percentage suggests but problem is if you survive those early rounds his power fades badly.

Rivas hasn't impressed me either, but neither has Ruiz Jr for me. He has flashy hands but he's too easy too hit and of the two I think Rivas' power is more of a threat.

Breazeale is crude but he's effective and I just can't see Ruiz taking Breazeale out early which I think is his best chance, because once Ruiz loses the snap off his punches and his power declines he'll have nothing to stop the bigger man walking him down and working him over.

Tyson Fury was 70+% body fat, he made a great comeback to 25% bodyfat.

I guess we'll find out a little bit. Hoping that long break has done him good and helped him work on things, perhaps improving the gradually fading snap he suffers from

Yes but he doesn’t fight out of shape and he had a decent musculature for someone of his size.

He'll need to sort out his weight if that's to happen. He simply can't throw with the same intensity consistently as the fight goes on because he's carrying so much extra weight. People like to pretend all this excess weight isn't detrimental, it may not be against weaker opposition but whenever he steps up it's going to hinder him greatly against the top guys.

Yeah right - Tyson Fury is the definition of skinny fat. Barely any muscle on that man. Fair play he trimmed down a lot, but he could trim of more fat and you'd see an average WT for a 6'9 man.

Here's a cut out and keep template for the standard boxingforum24 trolls / AJ haters to save them some time on this and any future AJ fights:
"It should have been [insert name of whoever it was that didn't get fight]. Clearly AJ is ducking [insert name of whoever it was that didn't get fight] by going with [insert name of guy who did get the fight].

To Fury's credit his biggest pro about him is his engine . I've never worried or questioned Fury's tank I'll give him that he has an engine on him and does not gas out . The man has stamina .

I think they’ve done well to get Ruiz

    Look at the rankings
    1 AJ
    2 wilder -fighting Breazeale
    3 Fury fighting schwarz (who!?)
    4 whyte - already beaten
    5 Povetkin - already beaten
    6 miller - banned
7 Ortiz - priced himself out
8 pulev - pulled out injured the 1st time
    9 Parker - already beaten
    10 Breazeale - fighting wilder/already beat
    11 Kownacki - declined
    12 Ruiz

    Power--Ruiz
    Handspeed--Ruiz
    Skill--Ruiz
    Chin--Ruiz
    Homefield advantage--Ruiz

    Should be a total mismatch.
