Hopkins turned pro inside the CW limit
Trinidad turned pro inside the LWW limit
    6 divisions lighter

Trinidad had been put down against smaller lighter fighters, 7 times that I can recall

A masterclass indeed. Don't forget BHop was a 3-1 underdog in that fight.

A pure exhibition of technical skill, methodical breakdown of an opponent, jabs, counters, timing, footwork, feints, inside fighting.. this fight had it all.

Nice breakdown, really show's Hopkins' versatility.

A worthy video breakdown of the same fight:

This was really the end of the thread right here. One does not even have to mention Hopkins' obvious roid filled career.

Trinidad turnerd pro at the age of 17! Hopkins at 23.
Hopkins first made the MW limit at the age of 25. At 25 Trinidad was a long reigning WW titlist.
Hopkins first fought for a world title at 28. Trinidad knocked out William Joppy at the age of 28.
And yet Trinidad was the 2 to 1 favorite.
And at the weigh in, it was Hopkins who was the lighter man.

Yes, Hopkins was the naturally bigger man but on the night, they were the same, only Hopkins enjoyed a slight height advantage and a noticable reach advantage.

Are you really going to say that Trinidad would have beaten him if they had been the exact same size? The man got completely schooled.

Hopkins boiled down to MW. Trinidad was a WW who hadnt been at LMW long and went up for a MW competition.
Dont be silly about this weigh in business. Some fighters drop to make weight and suddenly gain water weight, whereas Hopkins kept himself around a certain weight. When Rios fought Bradley at WW, he was apparently very heavy at the weight but you dont think if he fought Hopkins at that weight that he would be the naturally bigger man do you?
On the night it was a big MW against a blown up weight carrying former WW.

I rate Hopkins win over Holmes as a far greater win

Trinidad was too small. Hopkins took advantage of the smaller man.

I think it is forgotten that Hopkins turned pro inside the CW limit. I am not sure that Hopkins has fought a fighter who turned pro heavier than he was when he turned pro

He was the bigger man, no doubt in that. But Trinidad ended his career at 160(not that he had many fights after Hopkins) and Hopkins spent the next 5 years at 160. Hopkins even went down to 156 for De La Hoya.
You are talking about a man who on average weighed 168 on fight night. Thats not big for a MW.

Fact is that Hopkins beat trinidad because of his skill, not brawn.

Wrong! Size and STRENGTH had a lot to do with what happened that night. Why was Bhop able to do the things he did that night? Because Tito was the smaller fighter and Bhop was able to bully him around and could take Titos punch. That has everything to do with size. I was a huge Tito fan and i tried telling people that Bhop was going to win that fight and win easy. I did not see a ko but i knew he was too strong for Tito and it played out just how i figured.
Its amazing to think Bhop was the underdog just as i still cant believe Floyd was an underdog against Corrales.

Tito spent most of the fight pushing Hopkins back, and he had nothing for Hopkins on the inside. The only time Hopkkins size really came into play was the reach with the jab. Hopkins did nothing like bully Trinadad. Trinadad was coming forward and got beat up once he got inside.
