Lewis could not compete with the new crop of heavyweights. He yielded belts to Ruiz and Byrd without a fight and eventually was retired by Vitali under the threat of losing the last title.

Wrong. Those guys were still winning across eras. Holy field was well past it for the Byrd fight without a significant win there after. Really you just need to use common sense and be objective.

Wasn't Danny Williams losing every round to Tyson before Mike hurt his knee? Shouldn't that be a technical win for Tyson in klitschko land?

Maybe Sanders and Solis and of course Lewis, who else?

The true stand out Champions of the last few decades: Holmes, Tyson, Holyfield, Lewis, and Wlad all did a good job of meeting a large number of other top 10 RING fighters. Before it is over, Wlad will likely surpass or draw even with them. But this is barking up the wrong tree.

Since the 50s there has a gradual decrease in rated contenders fighting other rated contenders. Since the introduction of the alphabet era in the 80s its became a game of belt holders vs contenders while matches between two rated contenders with no major alphabet title on the line are rare.

Fights between top 10 contenders with no major title on the line:

    1990-1999

Ruddock vs Tyson I and II
    Mercer vs Damiani
    Mercer vs Morrison
    Lewis vs Ruddock
    Lewis vs Butler
    Bowe vs Holyfield
    Bowe vs Golota
    Golota vs Grant
    Spoon vs Mercer
    Izon vs Tua
    Ibeabuchi vs Tua
    Rahman vs Tua
    Byrd vs Ibeabuchi

    2000-2010
    Oleg vs Jefferson
    Oleg vs Johnson
    Tyson vs Golota
    Tua vs Oquendo
    Tua vs Rahman II
    Toney vs Holyfield
    Byrd vs Tua
    Wlad vs McCline
    Peter vs Wlad I
Peter vs Toney I and II
    Brock vs McCline
    Povetkin vs Byrd
    Chageav vs Ruiz
    Chambers vs Dimitrenko
    Chambers vs Peter
    Arreola vs Adamek

    2011-present
    Pulev vs Dimitrenko
    Pulev vs Thompson

....Not any others I'm aware of, lots of upstart contenders that have yet to mingle. Past 3 years have been fun though with Adamek, Chisora, Fury, and Povetkin having good scraps so can't complain.

If I missed any, somebody bring them up, this is interesting.

If that contest is a pie eating contest, then I agree.

Except Holyfield's resume is better than Wlad and Vitali's. He beat Foreman, who went on to become the oldest HW champ in history. He beat Tyson who, while past his prime, was still a good fighter. Holyfield's resume at CW absolutely destroys Haye's.

Hell, even Tyson's resume is better than either Klit's. He was the youngest HW champion in history, and the first man to unify the titles. He beat Michael Spinks and Larry Holmes, albeit an old version of Holmes. And he beat Ruddock and Bruno. I know how much you glorify Ruddock.

No it really doesn't. Tyson was the WBC's #1 contender, and we all know credence how much stock you put in Vittles WBC defenses so maybe you should stop using double standards when it suits you.

its obvious this era is much worse than any previous era. Hopefully some day the HWs will get back to its glory days but i doubt it.
