So the top fighters of the 00s actually fought each other more frequently than the 90s. This method is fair, as we are talking an even bracket of time. It seems to paint an accurate picture of each decade with Lewis and Evander dominating the 90s, while the 00s was much more chaotic and balanced with Wlad (06-09) and Lewis (00-03) splitting time as the top men.

Looking at the top 12 fighters from each decade it breaks down as:

80s=63 total top 10 RING contenders

90s=54 total top 10 RING contenders

00=68 total top 10 RING contenders

Conclusion: Just not a huge difference between the three. The 90s had a drop off but it also had the strongest top 2 fighters. Are top fighters really facing each other less frequently in last three decades?

2010-Present: Early to tell after just 3 years:

    Adamek: Vitali, Chambers, Cunningham, Arreola
    total: 4

    Wlad: Chambers, Haye, Povetkin
    total: 3

    Povetkin: Chageav, Huck, Wlad
    total: 3

I'll buy this but I think you could have added even more names to Vladimir Klitschko's opponents comparable to the names of some of the aforementioned previous eras.

Really I think Ibragimov, Chambers, Byrd, Rahman have just as much credibility as many names of previous eras e.g. Berbick, Bobick et al.

I bet even the Klitschko brothers(which is apparently one person) would tell you this era they are fighting in sucks

I used the RING Year End Rankings before the fights in question occurred which can be found on Boxrec.

Define Irony=JAB accusing someone of making numbers up, he still is touting false rankings on the first pace as correct and irrefutable, giving Sultan and Chambers lower rankings than they actually had on the listings he cited.

I have not made up any numbers in this thread.

    I agree.

The past three decades have only produced 5 truly great heavyweights: Holmes, Tyson, Holyfield, Lews, and Wlad. Vitali and Bowe are borderline.

The rest of the standout contenders are all roughly on the level.

What exactly did Dokes do to be considered above "utter rubbish" and so forth, wins over Ken Lakusta, Ossie Occasio? I don't see anything spectacular about Dokes. I believe he had a win over Mike Weaver but Weaver's win-loss record at the time would be laughable if he were active today ( I think Weaver was something like 24-10 ).

Not much of an answer. I think some obese slob KOed Dokes. BTW, I was following boxing when Dokes actually was boxing and the entire division was dismissed as being the worst ever back then too.

-That entire exercise was took from your wording, if you don't like the results, chose your words more carefully. Defenses of the Championship From the eras I originally offered:

    2009-2013 Wlad: #3 Chambers, #2 Haye, #2 Povetkin Avg: 2.33
    2000-2003 Lewis: #2 Grant, #5 Tua, #9 Rahman, #2 Tyson, #7 Vitali Avg: 5
    1996-1999 Holy: #2 Tyson, #4 Moorer, #2 Lewis, #2 Lewis Avg: 2.5
    1990-1994 Holy: #10 Foreman, #3 Bowe, #4 Moorer Avg: 5.66

I don't think you like these either or how your Avg Method treats them:

-No, I compared Tyson and Wlad side by side using my way and it came out very different from yours. The gap between Tyson and Wlad using the rankings before the fight was less than a point.

I overlooked Dokes thinking the match was in 89. I went back and added him. It didn't make a huge difference but thanks for spotting that, I woudln't want to shortchange anyone.

Huck and Cunningham were rated at CW prior to the fight.

I included them just as I included Spinks for Holmes and Matthews for Marciano.

There is no inconsistency in this, certainly no lying.
