There is no good reason for Pavlik to turn down an easy tune up fight on ESPN.

He and his promoter wouldn't have anything to do. Just turn up and pick up the cheque. No pressure. No headache. Just him training and putting his career back on track the way it should be done.

It isn't the fight, it is the training. Why go through the training, it is harder than the fight many times. You really don't understand the under pinnings of boxing.

He was up at the 2/3's of the way through the fight. You are entitled to your opinion even though it differs from reasonable, rational and accepted definitions I suppose.

I don't like Bute or any of his fans but he will destroy this guy.

The whole point of the fight is the training camp. If he doesn't like training & fighting then WTF is he doing in the sport of boxing?

Edit: I forbid you to say "money". :tong :D

No, the point of a pro boxing match is the payoff at the end. If he wants to fight for fun their are enough bars around here for that. The boxing world does not revolve around Bute. Kelly can still make good money for his next fight, but not if it is on an under card with two other name fighters. You aren't even trying to be realistic here. He can EASILY pick up half a million fighting a stiff on a Top Rank PPV. Why would he fight for less, and I would have to guess around $100K, just to be on Bute's under card? ESPN isn't gonna provide much money so it would all have to come out of the gate. That is Bute's pocket. Get serious. This is not realistic unless they can sell a ton of advertising or make it a PPV event. But we are talking ESPN.

Needs to take a paycut after the beating Martinez gave him. Pavlik is in no position to make demands for a big payday. His belts were taken.

Pay cut in terms of making far less money than he can elsewhere. Maxime seems to think his earning power dropped to zero and he should be begging for table scraps from Bute. Please follow the context.

Were you by any chance Pavlik's advisor before the Martinez fight?
He came in looking like he did no training at all. I think Pavlik should do the ESPN thing. He'll give more people a chance to see him, show that he's taking his training more seriously, and by looking impressive, he can create more demand for a Bute fight. He'll get his payday then.

I'm sure he can. But what good will that do for him? Fighting on an obscure top Rank PPV card that nobody's going to buy isn't exactly the best way to get fans excited about your return. On the other hand, fighting on ESPN in front of +1,000,000 viewers might.

Bute is setting the example Pavlik should be following. He just fought his last 4 fights on HBO & Showtime. They could have easily decided to keep the Bute-Brinkley fight off tv when HBO didn't pick it up (rightly so, that fight doesn't belong on HBO). The money ESPN is going to pay to broadcast the fight isn't even going to cover Bute's training expenses. But they decided they wanted the exposure. So the longest reigning 168lbs Champion in the world will be fighting on ESPN Friday Night Fights next. Keeping his name in the mix instead of being to proud to lower himself to ESPN "level".
