I didn't say that. I did say he can earn more than he would on FNF as part of a Bute/ Andrade/ Pavlik/ card. So, if he is going to put in the training, why not earn up to 10x more? I don't know what they would offer him for the FNF gig, but I would guess $25K tops. Bute isn't going to give up purse and ESPN doesn't seem to put much bankroll into these. They just tag along. A local promoter said that he has been contacted by FNF to put on a card, but it was too short notice. I don't know if they ever talked dollars, but he posts here. Jsimps? Anything to add?

I just pm'd jsimps to see if he would jump in with anything he knows. Pavlik or FNF wise. Like I say, they didn't give him enough notice so I don't know if they ever talked about money, etc...

He can put in the training camp for a mere 25k because it's his job to fight and to fight often; otherwise fans will get bored with him and dismiss him, and his earnings potential will plummet. It's in his best interest to stay fresh in people's heads, especially in a dominant KO victory over the type of opponent they'd be able to afford to match him with in a FNF co-feature - even if it means putting in a training camp for a mere 25k (which some families LIVE ON annually, by the way).

Just thought I'd let you guys know that Jean Bédard from Interbox said today that they tripled the budget for the undercard in an effort to get potential opponents for Bute to fight on the card that night. No official announcement yet.

That's good news. If they can't get Pavlik and/or Andrade, they'll still get some good fighters. You don't need top fighters to make great fights. You need Good Match Making. Miiranda/Vera might be fun to watch for example.

I think somebody might pull out of the Bika-Mendy fight. Or the winner could fight on the Bute-Brinkley undercard in october. Possibly against Andrade.

But I don't see Interbox putting themselves into a position where they have to fight Andrade again.

We just need the FNF card to be really good no matter who the fighters are. Rather like the Pavlik/Espino card: The main event was a foregone conclusion, but every fight was a good one, and Cermeno/Valdez was a foty candidate.

But you see, what Interbox want is someone on the undercard who could be a potential opponent for Bute.

Which is why the name of Pavlik has come up. They want to match Pavlik with an opponent that will make him look good in front of a large audience so that a potential Bute-Pavlik fight might become viable again.

Lets face it, Pavlik looked really bad in his last fight. A co-main event fight on a special ESPN card against lets say, the winner of Bika-Mendy. Would generate genuine interest. The winner of that fight would become a legitimate contender to Bute's title and a viable opponent for HBO.

The winner of Pavlik vs. winner-of-Bika-vs.-Mendy would be a totally legitimate contender, and Bute's best opponent in some time. :good

He's weak to the body though. One Bute left uppercut to the body and Brinkley is out IMO.

Hopefully it's going to happen in the first 3 rounds so we can all go to bed early. :D

It was going to cost us around 30K to put on an ESPN fight here with local guys on the card at anywhere from $100-$150 per round (per the level of experience). I personnally don't think ESPN has the bankroll to make this happen.

As much as I know, Kelly is still set on moving up in weight. He is still not certain if it'll be at 168 or 175... He feels it is unhealthy for him to try and cut down to 160. He had no fat to lose before the Martinez fight and was only taking in salads and water to get down to the weight, while still running outdoors, on the treadmill, and spending time in the sauna three days before the fight and the morning of.

    His opponent is still (?).

So? You think Bute loses 15-20 odd pounds to make the 168lbs limit by eating steaks and french fries?

That's not the point. Kelly was physically unable to lose weight and burn calories because his body was not allowing him to do so. Kelly's normal routine to cut weight was to limit his diet to cabbage soup. Obviously, this is not a good approach to being able to keep up your stamina and strength. He's always had issues dropping the last 5-10 pounds and it was not due to his diet. He will feel much stronger and energetic being able to follow a normal dieting routine allowing him to eat some carbs for energy.
